2008 RR NFL Survivor Pool

It's about that time of year again, kids, and since the season is a few days away, I thought I'd start this up.  This game is pretty simple.

  • Pick one NFL team to win every week.
  • You can't pick the same team twice.
  • If your team loses, you're out.
  • Last one standing wins fabulous prize*.

This was a lot of fun last year, and I'll volunteer to do the grunt work of figuring out who's doing what.  Comment below for your official entry into the contest, with your Week 1 selection.  (If you're picking one of the teams in the Thursday game, pick needs to be in before the game kicks off.)

*Fabulous prize may or may not exist.  If anyone has a fabulous prize they would like to donate, go ahead.

If we want

we could run this through Yahoo. It takes the grunt work out of it, although there will probably be less chatter here as a result. That could be a good or bad thing depending on how you feel about non-baseball fun.

Either way I’m in.

by Red Menace on Sep 2, 2008 3:39 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Doesn't matter to me, either way.

I don’t mind keeping it here, as long as people aren’t offended by non-baseball talk. On one hand, it’s a baseball-centric site so most of the material posted should be baseball related, but it’s also a community of fans with a common interest. Personally, I wouldn’t mind having it here, just for the trash talk that will most likely ensue, but the powers that be have the final say.

I’m picking the Colts over the Bears and hoping they don’t let ’em off the hook.

Alright, I'll bite

I’m going with the Bengals in Week 1 against the Ravens and Joe Flacco. That way I won’t get stuck with them down the line when they have to play a real team.

Overserved and underwhelmed.

by Pops Daniels on Sep 2, 2008 4:05 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Am I the only asshole who took the Bengals?

I’ll bet that 1/2 of the teams in the ACC could beat them right now. God that was fucking putrid.

Overserved and underwhelmed.

How is this going to work, please?

Very simple.

Pick one out of the 32 NFL teams to win this weekend. If your team wins, you advance to the next round, and you pick a different team for week 2. If your team loses, you’re out of the contest.

Ok yeah - but what I'm asking is this a Yahoo program or do we jsut do it in the middle of the road?

Didn't you clinch against me

when I didn’t get a pick in before the early Thanksgiving game?

by Red Menace on Sep 2, 2008 5:14 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

also I was still in a baseballthinkfactory league

that started with about 50 people. I maintain that if you miss the first scheduled game you should be able to pick a latter game. I wonder if Yahoo has that option. If not it’s a point for doing it here.

by Red Menace on Sep 2, 2008 5:22 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm kind of leaning towards doing it here too.

I don’t know how many entries we can expect, but Yahoo caps theirs at 50. The more the merrier, god dammit.

the problem with doing it here is that I can study everyone's pick

yahoo keeps the picks secret

and we won’t have 50 people play

As I went to make my pick, I realized that I have no idea who is good this year

I think I’ve watched 30 seconds of Sportscenter in the last month. So, I guess I’ll take Philadelphia. They have a team there, right?

I was tempted to take Atlanta just to earn myself an early exit. But, in a bold and game-changing move (kinda like Sarah Palin) I am picking the F-A-V-R-E-S Jets over that bad ACC school they’re playing

I’ll take the Patriots.
I know nothing about pro football. But, I have a secret method.

by bbjones on Sep 4, 2008 6:45 PM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Okay.

You guys have until the game you pick kicks off to make a pick. For example, you can’t pick the game going on right now if you’re just entering, and technically you can pick up until Monday afternoon, but only the Monday night game then.

For the people who showed interest, I don’t have picks from snohio, Officer Dibble, and andromache.

This is still open for everyone else, except for ‘Nukkah, who’s likely headed to an early exit.
