Seth McClung vs Ramon Ramirez

Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Seth McClung 5-6 4.31 1.44 76 49

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Ramon Ramirez 0-0 2.25 0.75 12 6

You know, if Ramon Ramirez keeps pitching like he has, he might find himself pitching in the 5th spot in the rotation next season while Bailey and Thompson get sent to Triple-A (and I almost forgot Micah Owings).  Not that I think that Ramirez is turning into a star, but it sure is nice to have so many options for next season's rotation already.  Hopefully this means that the Reds won't be signing any Josh Foggs or Kirk Saarlooses.

This series is the Reds last chance this year to pay back the Brewers for 1999.  What's weird is that I'm kinda rooting for the Brewers to make the playoffs (my NL rooting list goes DBacks, Brewers, Phillies right now).  However, it sure would be sweet to get some redemption for the last time the Reds came close, but not close enough (2006 doesn't count since the Reds didn't deserve it anyway).  It's nothing personal, battlekow.  It's just business.

Jerry Hairston Jr. ss
Wilkin Castillo 2b
Joey Votto 1b
Jolbert Cabrera lf
Jay Bruce rf
Adam Rosales 3b
Corey Patterson cf
Ryan Hanigan c
Ramon Ramirez p

I’m going to the game tonight, and a little bummed that this may be my last chance (realistically) to see EdE in a Reds uniform, and he’s not playing. At least I can celebrate knowing that this will be the last time I see "K"orey, right? Right…?

I feel the same way about EdE

and I’ll be surprised if Patterson doesn’t return next season.

There's just no way they can bring Corey back

I keep telling myself this and telling myself this. Someday I’ll believe it.

Where’s me rum? Rum eases the pain.

You think they’re gonna trade EdE?

I thought EdE was on the short list?

Of the guys Jocketty wanted to keep?

If we can scrounge up another Volquez

then I’d give the trade a hooks up.

by Brendanukkah on Sep 19, 2008 5:47 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I don't think so

At least not after Johnny was let go. It was well known that he needed to go. We just got extremely lucky to land a good/great pitcher out of the deal.

Avast! Happy International Talk Like A Pirate Day! Yarrr!

Here be the batting orderrrr, per Long John Fay:

Cherry Hudson, JuniARRR ss
Killin’ Wilkin Castillo 2b
Jolly Joey Votto 1b
Yo ho ho-lbert Cabrera lf
Cap’n Jay Bruce rf
Adam Row Row Row Your Boat Rosales 3b
Corey PattARRRson cf

Here's the lineup according to a professional internet pirate name generator

Slippery Rupert Morgan ss
Paraplegic Javier Barbossa 2b
Cap’n Patrick Sharkchum 1b
Cap’n Izzy Poopdeck lf
Capn’ Brant Buttwipe rf
Sword Jugglin’ Ted 3b
Pirate Hannibal the Off-White cf
Cap’n Hubert Sharkbait c
Rancid Billy Dread p

Two things. 1) Pirate Hannibal the Off-White is racist; and 2) Why in the name of Morgan and Bartholomew is Jolbert Cabrera our cleanup hitter?

by Brendanukkah on Sep 19, 2008 5:19 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

3)

Is paraplegic really in the pirate lexicon? I’d have imagined something far cruder.

He had alot to say.
He had alot of nothing to say.
We'll miss him.

Also, Seth McClung pitched a couple innings of relief yesterday, so he won't be stARRRting

Most likely the starter will be that lily-livered bilgerat, Jeff Suppan. Avast!

Micah Owings

not sure what to make of him. I think I want to see him on the 25 man next year and I would love to see him get about 100-150 at bats next season

that one of the most racist cities in America gets the Civil Rights game, or is it justice?

I'd say

ironic, because you managed highlight a positive in a negative sense.

Is the season over yet?

It sucks to be in last place again!

Black and Yellow are ugly colors!

Why can’t everyone love us like they do the Steelers?

I wish I’d have been included in the Manny deal…

Ahhh, my friend that's coming down from Columbus that has my ticket is running late.

Guess I won’t get to see the reception Jolbert Cabrera gets as the starting left fielder.

Last Friday night game, “college night” so tickets are cheap… I think it’ll be a decent crowd for a 5th place team.

Ramon Ramirez was actually the pirate Hans Sprungfeld

His tongue was bitten off in a groghouse in Singapore, and was replaced with a silver prosthetic.

by Brendanukkah on Sep 19, 2008 7:45 PM EDT   0 recs

I've been marooned on island with only my rum and fey affectations for company

Now to wait for some sea turtles to pass, so I can lash them together with my back hair and ride them to safety. I hope there’s a lot of turtles.

And hey, the Reds are winning!

And Jeff Suppan has already walked the plank

He’ll be showering and changing into his street clothes in front of Davy Jones’s locker.

Holy crap

I miss one inning while firing off irate letters to my congress persons, protesting that idiotic and irresponsible bailout, and it’s 5-0?

You're gonna have to supply the bat

And apparently Karl Rove lives in the county next to mine. Do you mind if I track him down and bludgeon him to death just out of principle?

by Brendanukkah on Sep 19, 2008 8:00 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

You're gonna need a bigger gaming system

We’re winning, Ramirez is pitching well, we’ve knocked out Suppan, and Votto and Bruce have both homered. Why not tune in?

Also, I had a silent hope to top 500 comments on Pirate Night. It looks like that’s not likely to happen, but some company is always appreciated. You can even make Jimmy Buffett comments if you want to.
