Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Braden Looper 12-12 4.02 1.32 91 42

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Bronson Arroyo 14-10 4.65 1.43 146 63

Arroyo is 20 IP from his 4th straight 200 inning season.  He's also one win away from a career high.  It's September Reds baseball...time to play for milestones!

The Cardinals have lost 5 in a row and sit 4.5 back in the wild card race.  This is the fourth time in the last 5 series where the Reds opponent has come into the series with a losing streak of 5 games or more (the one that didn't, Milwaukee, is 3-11 in their last 14).  The Reds are 7-5 in the previous 4 series.  So, take any winning the Reds are doing right now with a giant grain of salt.

Anyone else disappointed that they aren't doing a bobble-arm doll for Tom Browning? (Too soon?)

Also, Wilkin is once again not catching

And in other breaking news, it has been 21.5 months since Saddam Hussein was hanged, and the world is still glad to be rid of him.

I wish.

Same with Bako. I’m telling you, 1-6, this batting order isn’t completely terrible.

1-6?

since when is Keppinger an adequate 6 hitter? its a shame, because i was all behind Keppinger at the beginning of the year. i even went so far as to question the BP extension because i thought he could be a solid everyday second basemen for us.

he really has fallen off, and its hard to believe that his OPS+ this year is 69( thats what she said). i still think he could be an average second basemen with average defense and an OPS+ ~100, but no way i would count on that. at this point i seriously doubt he could hold down a regular job as a utility man. on some other team, you know, because on this team he’s the our starting SS.

It's better than him batting 2nd

and considering the “integrity” of the race, you know he’ll be in the lineup somewhere.

ahhhh i see

but “better” doesnt always mean “not completely terrible”.

the things we do to keep on the sunny side, right?

by Charlie Scrabbles on Sep 16, 2008 6:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Right.

Just because it’s not completely terrible doesn’t mean it’s not kind of terrible. I actually like Hairston batting 2nd and Votto 3rd. I’m thinking this 3-5 may be the heart of the order for the rest of the season, and maybe next year with BP batting 2nd. I’d be fine with that.

by BK on Sep 16, 2008 6:28 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i'd rather have someone with better OBP skills hitting 2nd

but im really ok with that. unfortunately i think Dickerson/Bruce/Votto is probably the best 1-2-3 we have, but thats just too many lefties. BP has to hit somewhere, and im afraid he would throw a conniption if it were lower than 4.

Just

because it’s not kind of terrible doesn’t mean it’s not sort of terrible. and just because it’s not sort of terrible doesn’t mean it’s not slightly terrible. and just because it’s not slightly terrible doesn’t mean it’s not marginally terrible. and just because it’s not marginally terrible doesn’t mean its not at all terrible. and just because it’s not at all terrible doesn’t mean it’s not at all terrible.

Well, it's unavoidable...

Since we don’t have anybody else to play catcher. And nobody to play second so that Hairston could play in center.

Right?

AS much as I don't think CoPat is all that good I can live with him in the line up.

BUT WHAT’S THE FUCKING DEAL WITH HAVING BAKO IN THERE? HUH DUSTBALLS?
Its gonna be along, long night. The Cards come to town with a losing streak and Tony Laloser will try every sabremetric trick in the book to win. Meanwhile in the other dugout there won’t be enough room for the young guys to even sit on the bench what with LLM over there and all. These long one run winning games by the Reds recently remind me again and again just how late in the season it is – playing our regulars agins their AAA call ups…I really don’t hate Dusty – I just wish he’d decide to hang up his rock ’n roll spikes.

about 15-20 seconds - as long as it takes to type. It just stream of conciousness quasi spam.

Besides we’ve talked about every little thing over and over and over…I just had this image of all of the Reds sitting on top of each other cause there’s so many AAA guys up and LLM sprawled over about 1/5 of the bench – and i wanted to share it with you HC.
