Game 116: Reds vs Astros
Houston Astros @ Cincinnati Reds
|
|
|
Time to make Oswalt 20-2 all time against the Reds. Wow, that doesn't sound as tough as I was hoping.
The Reds have lost 4 of 5 to he 'stros this year. Would anybody else have a problem with the team making that 4 of 9? It's time for the losing to stop. I'm calling a 10-game win streak starting tonight and ending sometime in the next 30 games.
No baby tonight. boobs has convinced me this team is not even worth the baby right now.

I put all three of my kids into real cages
and sent the pics to the Res front office…....lets see if that will get some results.
1st Cincinnati Reds Player: These guys don't look so tough.
2nd Cincinnati Reds Player: Yeah, that's what Custer said when the Indians took the field.

From Fay:
Jerry Hairston Jr. thinks he’s a couple of days away. “If I was a first baseman, I could play right now,” he said. “But in center field, you’ve got to run everything down. The last thing we want is another setback.”“I’m dying to put Jerry in there,” Dusty Baker said. “But we want him to stay in there.”
Aaron Harang will probably start Sunday. “We’ve been trying to give (Edinson) Volquez an extra day,” Baker said. Harang threw a regular bullpen session today. He’s had no pain from his strained forearm.
Dying to put Jerry in there, but we want him to stay in there. Oh Dusty, your words hurt Corey so.
And a team that is dying to get Hairston in the lineup is truly dying.
All I’ve ever done was be Juan Pierre," he said. "I don’t know why, for some reason, they’re just sticking it to me this year."

I think BP would be more than happy to play shortstop
It’s a more important defensive position and Phillips seems to relish those opportunities. I think the Reds are too chickenshit to try it.

eh
it’s a question of net value. I think if you switch BP and Keppinger, you’d net a couple of runs in the positive direction over the course of the season. If they’d add Mark Ellis, they’d net a shitload of runs.

The Reds go down 5-0
Edwin singles, Patterson immediately pops a bunt into the air that Oswalt catches and soft tosses to first. Should have been a double play, but Berkman flubs it. It would have been the perfect Corey Patterson at bat. Luckily, Bako got Edwin doubled up the next play.

I hate feeling so negatively about my team
I know that folks don’t like it when I talk soccer, but the DC United atmosphere is always great. The fans are singing and cheering and on their feet for the entire game. We boo the other team, and not our own players. When someone scores a goal against DC, we immediately break into a “DC Uni-ted!” chant to lift their spirits.
Of course, they reciprocate by putting a winning team on the field.

my GD is all effed-up
it said Majewski grounded out, then had Votto batting with no outs, and then put A Phillips at the plate with no outs, and then showed 3 outs!
Can I correctly assume we didn’t score, or take more than 10 pitches (again)?

A. Phillips grounds out (so Majewski didn't bat for himself)
Keppinger strikes out, Votto flies out to left. Not sure how many pitches, but it couldn’t have been that many.
And GameDay has been ridiculously bad this year.

It's funny
Phillips keeps saying he wants to be like Barry Larkin, and as I saw “In play, out(s)” flash up, I found myself thinking about how all the sportswriters assured me that Barry Larkin would have hit the ball behind the runner. And then I saw that Phillips had hit it in front of the runner. And that summed things up pretty nicely.

You can tell your uncle stuff that you could not tell your dad. That is kind of the role of an uncle. I feel very much like a father sometimes but sometimes I feel like a teammate.

Weathers really doesn't take much shit from the media
considering how atrocious he can look. He’ll load the bases with no outs then get praised for only letting one run score.

If there's one thing that the local media is too lenient on
it’s veteran players stinking up the joint. Weathers and Mercker especially get almost no shit when they fail miserably at their job, and when they succeed, they’re heroes who are “overcoming the odds” and “can still get it done”. I’d love for Marty to call Weathers “washed up” just once.

Yeah, but
He did only allow one run. Sure, he might have killed the Reds chances for a comeback, but he didn’t super-kill them. We were all expecting much worse from that situation.
I’m not meaning to rebut your argument. I’ve been saying something to the effect of “Trade Weathers” for awhile now. He should be dumped on more, but I think the journos all see him (fairly) as a stand-up guy, and good for an interview.
