Jeff Suppan vs Homer Bailey

Partly cloudy with a 40-percent chance of rain. Winds blowing out to right field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 85.

Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Jeff Suppan 6-7 4.75 1.59 62 50

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Homer Bailey 0-5 7.55 2.10 14 14

I have very little confidence in Bailey right now.  I also have very little confidence in the offense scoring off of Jeff Suppan.  So, I guess you could say I'm not too confident in a win today.  Sigh.

Homer will kindle our spirits today

and will show us why we should be excited about our rotation next year. he’ll give up 4 hits and K 8 over 6.1 innings. and Suppan will leave the game in the 3rd because he will be embarrassed when it is revealed that he is wearing girl’s underpants.

Or those of Dusty's daughter...

Do with this what you will…

heard that Corey Patterson (29 years old) was dating Dusty’s daughter, Natosha (28 years old i think)...

You have to take it with a grain of salt, given the source, but I’ve heard Tracy and Eddie talk about this before a few times. It’s not like they’re reputable sources, either, but it kind of makes you wonder…

seeing Jolbert Cabrera in the lead-off spot just bangs home how bad this team is.

He is neither fast nor can he get on base. Lead him off!

Bend over and drop your pants, Mr. Babar.

by Slyde on Aug 6, 2008 12:11 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

honestly

im more upset that he is playing SS. he’s a freaking corner outfielder!! the willingness of our manger to trot out insufficient defenders at the most valuable defensive position is absolutely galling.

by Charlie Scrabbles on Aug 6, 2008 12:13 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I know that Jocketty wanted to use these last two months

to see what an outfield of Dunn, Hairston, and Bruce could do. Would it really be so much of a stretch to see what an infield of Phillips at SS and Kepp at 2B can do? There are reasons why you wouldn’t want to make Phillips switch positions in the middle of a season, but somehow I think the main reason that Dusty wouldn’t make the change is because it would mean he’d have to bat his cleanup hitter in the leadoff slot.

by Brendanukkah on Aug 6, 2008 12:16 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

hairston

Still hasn’t proven he is an everyday player. I like him, love his versatility, and hope he can come back strong and give us 3 days a week next season but I don’t think he is the 3rd starting outfielder the Reds need, especially if Dunn takes a hike.

Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds

by Caleb on Aug 6, 2008 12:24 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed him

He’s a lot like Freel, only dialed down a notch. Good as a top of the order utility guy, but you don’t necessarily want to depend on him to be a starter.

by Brendanukkah on Aug 6, 2008 12:25 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

or bat him second

For some reason, it would give me great joy to see Phillips move to SS and then bat 2nd that same day. Pavlov couldn’t have designed a better experiment.

BTW, I find it odd that Phillips, who clearly is an excellent athlete, has been the least moved player in the batter order this season. Seems like if he was supposed to be the next Barry Larkin, he would be used in a much more flexible manner. And this is a knock on Dusty, not Phillips, who I’m sure would bat wherever they asked him to, as long as it was 4th or higher.

Bend over and drop your pants, Mr. Babar.

by Slyde on Aug 6, 2008 12:26 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Perhaps Walt and Bob

can make a nominal bet about switching Kepp and Phillips. I hear the Nobel Committee may be very interested in the outcome!

the “Rock ‘Em Stockholm Robots.” But they never do.

by Brendanukkah on Aug 6, 2008 12:42 PM EDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

...and add to this

the fact that Andy Phillips is most likely a better SS than Cabrera, and he doesnt get a shot. i know its just quibbling with minor roster moves, but it seems like Dusty cant even get the basic things right.

he really is bad at his job isnt he?

i mean, you dont really have to know what youre talking about to be a good radio man (see Marty), but damn he is annoying AND stupid.

He's a third guy in the booth, at best.

His voice gets all circusy when he’s trying to do play-by-play, like he’s a PA announcer. He’s good for the occasional target of Marty’s ridicule, but other than that, he doesn’t say anything worthwhile. Say what you will about the guy, but Welsh runs circles around Brantley in the booth.

Certainly an oversimplification

But given the season is lost, I was hoping either one of the two would continue their hot hitting into the last two months so I have some reason to pay attention.

Oh, well. At least it looks like Bruce is picking it up. Sigh….

Bruce and Votto have both been hitting well right now

But it’s hard to overcome Dunn, EdE, BP, and Kepp, who are hitting a combined .110/.207/.159 so far in August. That, my friends, ain’t getting it done.

All I’ve ever done was be Juan Pierre," he said. "I don’t know why, for some reason, they’re just sticking it to me this year."

Nope

Sort of like the Reds. They gave up a lot of soccer runs early, then couldn’t come back. Without Wambach, their offense is significantly less potent. It would be a major upset if the men advanced farther than the women, but the women are still alive, and the men have a tough group (Japan, Netherlands, and Nigeria, I think).
