W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Edinson Volquez 15-5 2.80 1.32 155 73

You know what's great about this game?  Barry Zito is making $14,107,500 more than Edinson Volquez this season.  That number will likely go up to over $18 million next season.  How much must it suck to know that your team still owes Barry Zito $101.5 million?

The Reds won 10-1 when these two pitchers faced off in April in San Francisco.  I believe that was the game where Brandon Phillips hit 2 home runs and then told Hal McCoy (and others) to go away since they only want to talk to him when he's going well.  I wouldn't mind seeing a repeat performance if only for the fact that the Reds would actually score some runs for once.

Today's stat of the day: The only team with more CS+PO (caught stealing plus pick offs) this season than the Reds (59) is the Tampa Bay Rays (65).  The difference is that TB has stolen 124 bases while the Reds have stolen just 74.  Oh, well that and the fact that TB has had 103 more base runners in 38 fewer plate appearances.  Nothing like giving outs away when you're not getting very many base runners to begin with.

I mean, yay Volquez and all

But this game doesn’t really excite me. The 3-day weekend is here and all of my housemates are out of town. Who wants to come over? I got movies, booze, and Wii. There’s chips, and I just got my very first Crass album, and I’m excited to play it loud. Who’s in?

You have chips?

Who's in - Sarah Palin called and she coming...

Heard her speak today a bit…kinda like Marge in Fargo…Not nearly as cool as Francis McDormand… could be the death knell for Sgt. McCain

How much does it suck to know that Barry Zit face is still on your team and you still owe him big bucks….NOT NEARLY as much as knowing that Dusty Baker is your manager and isn’t going away and is owed big manager bucks.

You can tell your uncle stuff that you could not tell your dad. That is kind of the role of an uncle. I feel very much like a father sometimes but sometimes I feel like a teammate.

she's not even breathing hard

I’m quite bemused by the reaction to this pick. Both the lefty and wingnut blogs are thrilled. The Dems think McCain gave them a gift with this pick, the GOP thinks this drives a stake through the heart of Obama/Biden.

FWIW, McCain is gaining ground on the news at In-Trade.

Like you were going to anyway

I don’t believe the undercard makes a difference, to tell you the truth. People vote for the top of the ticket, not the bottom. For all the Sturm und Drang over this…in the end, the VP doesn’t matter. It never does. Hillary voters aren’t going to vote for McCain just because he picked a girl for VP, and McCain voters aren’t going to turn away from him because he picked someone young and inexperienced.

in this case it matters a lot

you have to figure there’s a 50/50 chance that mccain is going to die in office. if that happened it would leave her as president.

Not quite 50-50

At 72, he has a life expectancy of 12 years. Probably longer, since he’s reasonably healthy and well-off. So he’s likely to live out two terms.

plus the 4 cancer bouts, but I s'pose it's besides the point

BubbaFan is right, I’ve been quite amused by the excitement generated by both sides. McCain did get his wish and got Obama’s speech knocked off the headlines. However, Ido get the feeling that this was more a move of desperation than reasoned judgment. Regardless, this has been quite the season for political drama, eh?

but Johnny is grossly underestimating Clinton supporters if he thinks they’ll vote for a woman (attractive though she may be) regardless of ideology or core values.

Alternately

He could have a longer than expected life expectancy…as evidenced by the fact that he survived his POW days. Look at all those Holocaust survivors who lived be ancient.

The scariest thing might be if he’s alive and strong, but suffering from dementia. But then, we’ve already had that, Ronald Reagan.

agreed

i was never going to vote mccain anyway (i like to vote for the radical socialist/whig candidate) but picking a veep with her kind of experience flat out scares me. mccain most likely wouldnt die in office, though it is a valid concern, but in the event she has about as much experience as Marietta’s own Nancy Hollister.

This YouTube video is a lot more affecting than it should be

Putting in time, effort and energy to make a futile futile cause exhilirating and beautiful, if only for an all too fleeting moment…

Well, I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad.
