Game 132: Reds at Astros

Bronson Arroyo vs Wandy Rodriguez

Partly cloudy with a 30-percent chance of rain. Winds blowing in from right field at 5-10 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 90.

Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Bronson Arroyo 11-10 5.32 1.50 129 55

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Wandy Rodriguez 7-6 4.11 1.39 101 41

In his last 10 starts, Bronson Arroyo has pitched at least 6 innings 9 times with an ERA of 3.68, 6.6 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9.  Of course the start previous to that stretch was the 1+ inning gem in Toronto where he gave up 10 runs.  Perhaps that was a wake up call?  (ASIDE: What's the likelihood that Arroyo sings the song Wakeup Call by Maroon 5 in his show?)

When the Astros came to Cincinnati nearly three weeks ago, they were 54-59 and coming off of back-to-back losses to the Cubs.  Since that point they've gone 12-6, including an 8-game win streak  that started with a sweep of the Reds, but they've actually lost a game in the standings to the Cubs - not that it matters.  During that time the Reds went from 3 back of the Astros for 4th place (woo hoo) to 9 back after going 5-10 and trading Adam Dunn.

The Reds still haven't won back-to-back games in over a month.  Let's see if Goodroyo can get on the front side of one of those tonight.

Why not

Adam Rosales at 1B with Votto in LF? Rosales had a slew of 2-hit games immediately before his call-up. Is Dusty giving this youngster the best chance to succeed by sitting him for a week?

I honestly wonder where Dusty’s head is when Chris Welsh of all people is questioning his judgment. Some blame has to go to Walt, though, for allowing Dusty to do dippy things like playing He Whom Shall Not Be Named instead of the youngsters, in clear defiance of the BS PR letter sent out recently.

I hope Jolbert can prove himself tonight to be a valuable part of the 2009 team. He’ll only be 57 in March…

is how cavalier the average baseball fan seems to be about outs on the base paths.

It’s like once the player gets on, then his getting thrown out stealing is at the least a moral victory.

Hey mr. politician, aren't you in Denver or was that someone else?

I just found out that the Distilled Spirits Council is hosting a party tonight, and Styx is playing at the RNC (which is in MN, I know). Are politics actually this much fun?

Prince is definetly #1 on the list of "concerts I really want to go to before I die"

My dream this political season would be for Obama to come out to Outkast’s “Mighty ‘O’” I think that would be the most badass move by a politician ever. Unfortunately, the line “like the government giving crack cocaine to the poor” is in it, which pretty much exes out my idea.

I would have preferred Sibelious

…but if she says anything resembling “Screw you, Barack,” the walls of the Pepsi Center might just fall down around her ears.

And if the bitter H supporters that seem to be strung across the Internets have their way and the SuperDelegates steal this nomination from Obama, I predict the Earth will split open and swallow tham all.

The idea of having a losing candidate force a roll call vote to massage their ego is really tough to understand. One wonders if the shoe were on the other foot if they would have given Obama the same courtesy. I think not.

While Hillary might say that there were 18 million reasons

for her to get the veep slot, I can tell you that there were a billion more for Obama to treat her like she is radioactive.

While she has high popularity scores among some in this country, she also comes saddled with some of the highest negative Q scores of anyone in a looooong time. And you can only imagine the field day that the GOP would have in mobilizing the troops against her. That would turn the election into a slam dunk for McCain.

I wish he wasn’t catering so much to the Republicans in charge, but I guess he has to to get the nomination. You know he hates George Bush, but he has to buddy up to him to try and get elected.
