Game 132: Reds at Astros
Cincinnati Reds @ Houston Astros
|
|
|
In his last 10 starts, Bronson Arroyo has pitched at least 6 innings 9 times with an ERA of 3.68, 6.6 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9. Of course the start previous to that stretch was the 1+ inning gem in Toronto where he gave up 10 runs. Perhaps that was a wake up call? (ASIDE: What's the likelihood that Arroyo sings the song Wakeup Call by Maroon 5 in his show?)
When the Astros came to Cincinnati nearly three weeks ago, they were 54-59 and coming off of back-to-back losses to the Cubs. Since that point they've gone 12-6, including an 8-game win streak that started with a sweep of the Reds, but they've actually lost a game in the standings to the Cubs - not that it matters. During that time the Reds went from 3 back of the Astros for 4th place (woo hoo) to 9 back after going 5-10 and trading Adam Dunn.
The Reds still haven't won back-to-back games in over a month. Let's see if Goodroyo can get on the front side of one of those tonight.

I was gone for a week to Indy, then last week didn’t feel real good so I just took a little break. I’ll be around off and on for the rest of the week and then will be going to Florida just in time for Gustav to come ashore.

Why not
Adam Rosales at 1B with Votto in LF? Rosales had a slew of 2-hit games immediately before his call-up. Is Dusty giving this youngster the best chance to succeed by sitting him for a week?
I honestly wonder where Dusty’s head is when Chris Welsh of all people is questioning his judgment. Some blame has to go to Walt, though, for allowing Dusty to do dippy things like playing He Whom Shall Not Be Named instead of the youngsters, in clear defiance of the BS PR letter sent out recently.
I hope Jolbert can prove himself tonight to be a valuable part of the 2009 team. He’ll only be 57 in March…

One thing I've noticed
is how cavalier the average baseball fan seems to be about outs on the base paths.
It’s like once the player gets on, then his getting thrown out stealing is at the least a moral victory.
