Game 131: Reds at Rockies
Cincinnati Reds at Colorado Rockies, Aug 24, 2008 3:05 PM EDT

It's a matchup of young, hard-throwing Dominican phenoms today. Cueto has been pitching very well of late, but the Reds only have one win in his last 5 starts. He still needs two wins to get to my artificial goal of double-digit wins.
Jimenez is a couple of years older than Cueto and a much wilder, but his ERA is better because he's only allowed 9 HR compared to Cueto's 26. He threw 6 shutout innings against the Reds last month in a game in a game where he only allowed 5 hits (2 by Dunn, 1 by Griffey, Votto, and Bruce). Hopefully the offense can continue to be the juggernaut they've been so far in Colorado.

I don't know if anyone caught this last night
but Brantley tried to make a case about how the “Post Dunn and Griffey Era” has made the Reds a better team.
I recall him saying something about how the Reds can score in every other inning now with the young players and “not have just one big inning of getting 4 or 5 runs.”
Not only did his statement not make any sense but the Reds scored 6 runs last night and lost the game still! Must be the ghost of Adam Dunn’s bad influence then.
Norris Hopper's #1 fan!!!
I heard that
And chuckled at the idiocy. I also heard him state at some point recently that this team was “a couple of guys away” from making a run at things. I think he’s either retarded, drunk, or both.
How can such a good looking man be so bad at getting to first base?

But I just noticed that Jeff Stevens was on the team. Yup, the guy we traded for Brandon Phillips. So does Stevens’s bronze medal help even that trade up a little? No? Ok then.

Still rehabbing that broken knee
Which doesn’t make me feel especially good about his prospects for next season. Even though he had a bit of pop last season, we brought him in for his defensive prowess. That was already questionable last season, but counting on the man for his defense after he missed an entire season with a bad knee doesn’t fill me with confidence for 2009. I’m not really sure that he really would be better than all of the in-house SS candidates. At the very least, it doesn’t seem prudent to rely on him 100% for next season, and the higher-ups have to realize that shortstop has been abysmal for us this year. I just no longer see the harm in at least looking at what Phillips can do there.

It’s a testament to Corey that he still manages to amaze me with his ineptitude. I know he’s terrible, but he does things so badly on such a consistent basis as to truly be stunning. Did anybody catch that interview with the head of the IOC?
Part 3, played sometime today (when I happened to turn on the TV), dealt a lot with baseball and softball being dropped. And the guy never really provided a decent argument for dropping them.

You see that UK got a top flight qb commitment this week?
he was originally recruited by louisville. and kragthorpe thought it would be a good idea to take him to lexington last year to see the UK/Louisville game. of course, uk beat louisville, and he decided he’d like to be recruited by UK. great coach you guys have over there….

As long as Petrino eats shit and dies I'm happy
Please note – I don’t fault him for taking the money. I would do the same thing. But I wouldn’t lie my ass off in front of several cameras, saying I want to stay, 24 hrs prior to bolting. He’s a douche.

I hear ya
I’m totally indifferent at this point.
The only interesting thing to me right now is whether or not they can sink to the “1990s Bengals” level of sucktitude.
How can such a good looking man be so bad at getting to first base?
this is what they have to sink below
Pickens declined to speak to reporters, hitching up his jeans and whistling as he headed for the sanctity of the trainer’s room.
Witnesses said he entered the locker room after the game smiling, laughing and singing the early 1980s Kenny Loggins hit, "This Is It," a vignette which, if true, reflects his desire to leave as much as any statement.
You just threw that in for the Loggins reference, didn't you, you old salt?
At this point, I wouldn’t trust the Reds to win a back alley songwriting duel.
