weathers cleares wavers
per baseballsimccentral .... they seem surprised. reactions? a large part of me wants to see him stay here for next year. while he does have his frustrating moments, he still has a rock solid ERA and provides a leadership presence in the bullpen. plus, according to the site, he's only owed $610 K. unless we can get someething outstanding, why not keep him here.
he's a free agent after this year though. do you think he will be resigned if we do keep him?

I'm stunned
that he cleared waivers with all the teams in need of some bullpen help. Especially say, the Mets? I really doubt we’d be looking for much in return.
As far as next year, I doubt they bring him back and I’m ok with that. He’s pushing the age where you’re almost expecting a career to completely implode.

Mets
When I read the title I felt sure that the Reds had worked a waiver deal with the Mets. This is interesting considering the “no one wanted Dunn” theme that went around last week.

the only explanation
i can come up with is that all the other teams have forgotten that the team in Cincinnati is a major league baseball team. kind of like how the world forgets about all those little countries until they come marching down the parade route with their 3 representatives at the olympic opening ceremonies.

Seriously?
You’re stunned nobody wanted him? I’m pretty sure everyone laughed when they saw his name float by on waivers. They see through his numbers like RR does. Hitters are so anxious to swing the bat against his meat puffs that they get themselves out. On a good team in the playoffs against another good team, Weathers turns to jelly.

i would want Weathers in my bullpen
I wouldn’t want him to be the closer, primary, or maybe even secondary setup man, but he can be a solid short reliever.

I want to know absolutely everything that's happened up till now.
Well, let’s see. First the earth cooled. And then the dinosaurs came, but they got too big and fat, so they all died and they turned into oil. And then the Arabs came and they bought Mercedes Benzes. And Prince Charles started wearing all of Lady Di’s clothes. I couldn’t believe it…
I’m more a hello man and a welcome man than a good-bye man. And to me Adam Dunn was more a person than a player.

Ross also cleared waivers today
Phillies are interested, though he probably won’t join the big league team until after rosters expand.
Scrabbles must be right. Weathers and Ross can contribute to most contenders’ bullpen/bench. It’s like our team has cooties.

Yet another amazing display of poor management of assets and poor judgement on the Red's part.
Not calling Rosales up but fucking around with Jerry Jr.’s health for no understandable reason was ridiculous. Jerry looks like he could still be a good player but the guy seems to on the DL more than Farney.
I would hope to hell that Dustbrain will give this kid some PT. Christ on a hubcap this team’s management is so shortsighted it is scary.
Rosales is 25? Pretty much a singles/doubles hitter with a .809 OPS at AAA. He could maybe be a 3b or SS but has been primarily a 1b guy. I don’t know where he fits into the Red plan although he’s been on a tear since going back down to AA. . Maybe he could be packaged in a deal to get a legitimate RH. 3b power hitter? Dunno…I am beginning to wonder if EdE hasn’t just about topped out.
You can tell your uncle stuff that you could not tell your dad. That is kind of the role of an uncle. I feel very much like a father sometimes but sometimes I feel like a teammate.

Yeah, I really don't get that
The Reds keep running the walking wounded out there. Why? It’s not like the season’s on the line, And it’s not like Norris Hopper or Cherry Hudson sell a lot of tickets. Guys who are injured aren’t likely to play well and impress the other teams’ scouts, either, so what’s the point?
I think most teams would do what Krivsky did last year: call up a Gay Porn Star type. A guy who’s solid on defense, and expendable if he doesn’t clear waivers when you DFA him when you need to get him off the roster.
Jocketty/Dusty apparently prefer to put Norris Hopper in the lineup…even when he can’t throw, and can’t swing the bat without visibly wincing.

you mean Krivsky knew what he was doing?
I love that you said “gay porn star type” and I knew exactly what you were talking about. Even though Billy Bean(e)’s baseball career ended ages ago.

No better place than this
Junior tied Sosa today, so that makes me a little happy. One more juicer he’ll pass.
How can such a good looking man be so bad at getting to first base?
