Game 111: Reds at Nats
Cincinnati Reds @ Washington Nationals
|
|
|
Lots of Red Reporters at the game tonight to watch Josh Fogg. Hopefully they will get to see a win by one of the teams.
BTW, Corey Patterson's in the lineup tonight, just 18 hitless/walkless plate appearances from a sub.-.200 OBP. And an 0 for 4 tonight means he's batting below his weight. Hopefully Brendan and crew didn't pay for their whole seat because they'll only be using the edge!

I hope Dickerson gets the call
I don’t think he’s the future, but I think he’s better than Patterson.

this lineup is not bad. Kepp certainly is not ideal in the leadoff spot the way he’s been hitting, but i think this is the first Dusty lineup with which i cannot quarrel.
nope. scratch that. Bruce should be 6th, Dunn 3rd, and EdE 5th.
sorry Dusty. so close, yet so far.

Really? I think the obvious answer is Riccardi.
I also ditched Brendan for tonights game…I’m sort of an asshole. I got convinced to go to Annapolis; free dinner and all. Plus, I’ll likely be going to tomorrows game, and Fogg isn’t exactly Cueto on the entertainment scale, is he?

so he could swoop in and sign him in the off-season, completing his bizarro-Reds in D.C.

how he could turn it down - he's already a gozillionare?
the dude wants to play and thats that. i dont think money has anything to do with it, and the Packers trying to pay him off is a pretty stupid move, IMO. its almost insulting.
let me be clear; im not trying to say that Farve (proper spelling) is some kind of super-competitor and money as a motivator is well below his noble stature as an american sports icon. alls im saying is he already has alot of it, and all he wants now is to play. for the record, i hate Brett Farve, and i used to really like him.

junior, day 2
As the heat index hit 113, Ken Griffey Jr. didn’t make it through a second full game with the White Sox.
The 38-year-old Griffey was lifted for a pinch-hitter in the sixth inning of Saturday’s game against the Royals. Kansas City had just taken an 8-3 lead with two runs in the fifth.
Dewayne Wise batted for Griffey, who had been the No. 2 hitter in the lineup.

Griffey issued a release through the Reds today
Via the Fay:
I would like to thank the Cincinnati Reds organization for allowing me to fulfill a lifelong dream of playing for my hometown team. I will always value the lasting friendships I have with the Lindner, Castellini and Williams families. While my nine seasons there were filled with personal highlights – like hitting my 400th, 500th and 600th home runs in a Reds uniform – and the negatives of having to fight through too many injuries, my biggest regret is that we were not able to win a world championship while I was there.
I also would like to thank my many teammates, managers, coaches and Reds employees for their help and support and to acknowledge the many friendly relationships I had with most of the members of the local media. I will miss the banter.
Last, but certainly not least, I would like to thank Reds fans for their support. I really do understand that the overwhelming majority of fans wanted so badly for me to succeed. Additionally, I would like to sincerely apologize to those fans offended by my wrongful actions last Saturday night. It was an overreaction on my part to what I felt was a series of public inaccurate and unfair remarks about me.
I wish nothing but success for the Reds both on and off the field.
Sincerely,
Ken Griffey Jr.
Classy move by The Kid. Hopefully this heat cramp thing is nothing serious and he can get his ring with the Sox this year.

i started watching this game in the 5th inning
when Patterson got his bunt single (which greatly disapointed me in my hopes that he will continue his possibly historic bad season) and than Bako came up. I couldn’t understand why Bako was hitting second.

i left this game when josh fogg trotted out for the 6th inning at 102 pitches
saying that Dusty was hellbent on fucking up. Well, it wasn’t Dusty, it was just the whole team, which has now turned into a steaming pile of dog crap. And fitting, isn’t it, that Corey busted out and went 2-4? Now I have nothing to look forward to because he’s all the way up to .189. No way he catches the hard hitting Andruw Jones out in LA now. All the optimism has been crushed out of me for this year. Not even a real shot at a .500 record now. We’re the KC of the NL now. for shame, Reds, for shame.

i actually kinda wanted to give the bullpen a night off
and thought he pulled Fogg too quickly, mostly because Fogg is the one pitcher on this staff I don’t mind seeing abused. You know he would of given Volquez, Harang, Arroyo, or Cueto a longer leash to hang themselves with.

I think we're
more like the Baltimore of the NL. Sometimes I’d rather they were just bad for like 5 years. Maybe then they could just start stock piling draft picks, and come out of nowhere like Tampa. How many pieces are they away from being a legitimate contender?

Eyewitness report
Guh.
- Bruce hit a home run.
- Corey made a pretty sweet throw.
- Fogg wasn’t terrible after the first inning.
That’s about all for positives.
We had runners on the corners with one out and Dusty called for a bunt. What. The. FUCK? Because getting the runner to second is much more important than bringing the guy on third home? And now you have two outs, so he can’t score on a sac fly? I hate Dusty. I hate him so much.
Keppinger is pretty useless as a shortstop. Bruce might actually be a worse defender than Adam Dunn. The Nats’ infield defense puts ours to shame.
I was so upset that I didn’t even bother to stick around for the free screening of “Rookie of the Year.” Funky buttloving!
I hate seeing the Reds lose to the Nationals. They were swept in DC last year, and it’s looking pretty probable that it could happen again. What in the ever loving hell?
I’m cranky and need to go to bed, but I wanted to thank sonant for coming out to the game. Great to meet him, and yet another person I’ve met off the internet without incident!

i totally forgot that Dusty bunted with runners on the corners. im convinced that even though everyone may hate their team’s manager, but ours is definitely worse than most. what a SHITHEAD.
