Johnny Cueto vs Ian Snell

Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Johnny Cueto 7-11 5.01 1.39 129 50

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Ian Snell 4-9 6.06 1.90 98 68

Cueto needs 78 more strikeouts to break the Reds rookie record set by Gary Nolan in 1967.  Since he likely only has 8 or 9 starts left, it's doubtful that he can do that, but he only needs 45 strikeouts to pass Orval Overall (1905) for the 2nd most by a Reds rookie.  That is definitely within reach.  It would also be great to see him get his ERA to down around 4.5.  That would mean he'd pretty much have to average a quality start every time out for the rest of the season.  It won't be easy, but if he can do it he'd likely become the third Reds pitcher to win 10 games this season - the first time that has happened since 2000.  (Hey, I know I'm stretching for reasons to watch right now)

Snell has really kind of sucked this year.  And the Reds have hit him well in the past led by Alex Gonzalez, Javier Valentin, Ken Griffey Jr., and Ryan Freel.  I think that means they have a pretty good shot tonight.

Today is the first day of the rest of the days after today.  Make the most of it!

I saw that Dickerson was in the lineup and thought, "Hooray, no Corey Patterson!"

Then I got down and saw that Patterson was playing too, and I was bummed. Then I realized that the alternative was that Jolbert Cabrera would be playing, and I got confused, then disheartened, then resigned.

Can’t we at least play Hanigan over Bako?

Owings vs. waivers

There are conflicting reports on Owings. He is either:
1.) Injured, and thereby cannot be put on waivers
2.) Claimed already by another team (likely Washington), thereby not allowing him to be officially named as the PTBNL until after the end of the season.
3.) All of the above (I suspect this is the true answer)

What helps C-Dick most?

Dusty is “protecting” C-Dick against a tough lefty…a move that sort of made sense to me at first; Let C-Dick succeed a few games against easier pitching. But along with that “protection” comes a giant, nationally-published quote from your manager saying that you have “trouble with lefties.”

What in the name of Schottzie 02 does Dusty expect to come from that vote of confidence, that on a player’s second day, his weakness is defined and explained to the press?

I wish I would have worded all that better. I also wish Angelina Jolie was in my pants.

How can such a good looking man be so bad at getting to first base?

by jch24 on Aug 15, 2008 9:38 AM EDT up reply actions

Really good

A lot better than I expected. Apparently the two biggest Loved Ones fans in the world were standing right next to me (right front and center! kick ass!), so the guys in the band kept coming over and playing basically for them. Tad and Franz of the Hold Steady came out and joined them for their last song while Craig Finn was enjoying them thoroughly from the balcony above the stage. I bought a shirt of theirs, which says “We’re Gonna Grille Something This Summer.” If you’re familiar with the Hold Steady’s song, “Constructive Summer,” then you’ll find that as hilarious as I do.
