Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Josh Fogg 2-4 7.98 1.67 35 21

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Paul Maholm 7-7 3.76 1.25 108 41

Maholm has given up 2 or fewer runs in 4 of his 5 starts against the Reds, although he's never gotten a win against them. Josh Fogg has given up 18 runs in 3 starts against the Pirates. None of those "stats" mean anything, but it doesn't look like a good matchup for Cincinnati in any way.

Josh Fogg – shouldnt this guy have been DFA’d like 3 months ago?

Josh Fogg against the Pirates

So where exactly does this rate on the Vengeance Scale?

by Brendanukkah on Aug 13, 2008 5:16 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I give it

a Tom Lawless returning to Cincy as a Cardinal. Scrappy vengeance grit.

Overserved and underwhelmed.

by Pops Daniels on Aug 13, 2008 5:23 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I'd say

Right in between Mike Lincoln and Bronson Arroyo pitching against the Pirates.

No lineup from the Fay yet

Goddamn it’s hard to read his blog. Not only for his lazy bullshit, but it’s like I can hear the commenters breathing through their mouths.

Overserved and underwhelmed.

Here's a fun little tidbit.

Guess who started against the U.S. Olympic baseball team today (in a winning effort for South Korea)? Name doesn’t look familiar? Take another hit and think again.

Josh Fogg is so bad

and if I remember correctly Dusty publicly said earlier in the season that Fogg was not one of the guys he picked to be on the team.

C Slyde watch something else tonight.

Well played.....well played

I'm the only winner on this team. The rest of 'em, they're losers. Either by choice, or by birth.

by Willie Mays Hayes on Aug 13, 2008 6:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

No, you don't.

You aren’t thinking like Dusty.

Andy Phillips and Corey Patterson both hit better than Chris Dickerson and Adam Rosales in Louisville.

If you’ve given up on the season, then sure, let the kids play. See what you got. (I would call up Janish, too.)

But if you haven’t given up…you play the guys with who have hit better, not who might one day hit better.

In all seriousness

I have no doubt that Dusty’s reasoning behind tonight’s lineup is that he wants “to ease the young guys” into the majors, “make sure guys have established roles,” etc etc. To that end. we’ll see pretty strict knifey-spoony splits. Against a tough-ish lefty like Maholm, okay, fine, whatever.

I will say that if Jocketty is calling the shots on starters, I’d like to see him also force Dusty to give dudes like Dickerson, Hanigan and Rosales as many ABs as possible vs. both LHP and RHP. Baker’s devotion to Patterson, as we know, is beyond human reasoning, but guys like Cabrera, A Phillips and Valentin shouldn’t be taking many at bats away from the younger guys.

In conclusion, why am I thinking about this?

I don't think they see those young guys as anything more than utility guys

Well, maybe Hanigan, but I can see taking it easy on him. He’s a catcher, and catchers have a hard time not wearing down over the season.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Aug 13, 2008 7:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

They're almost definitely utility guys

but between dudes who are probably utility guys and dudes who are confirmed utility guys, I’d like to see the former get as many opportunities to prove otherwise.

And I'm not gonna look it up now

But C. Trent had a link on his blog that the Dragons were the sixth most valuable minor league franchise. I’m really proud that baseball has been so successful in Dayton, and produced so many future Reds (remember “Big” Adam Dunn?). The stadium is awesome, too.

Bats were seventh on the list.
