It's true

The trade was Rich Harden and Chad Gaudin (to the Cubs) for Sean Gallagher, Matt Murton, Eric Patterson, and a minor leaguer (Josh Donaldson). In the short term, it’s a great deal for the Cubs.

i feel that this won't help

Hardin isn’t exactly durable, and he will more than likely break down. I hope so atleast, I have always wanted to see what he could do, but I really don’t like the Cubs.

Could Corey's brother help us out?

Jayson Stark had this intriguing line:

Eric Patterson can serve as second-base insurance if Oakland can’t re-sign Mark Ellis or as an athletic super-utility type player who can play all over the infield and outfield.

Here’s hoping that Eric Patterson can play over his head for awhile and make the A’s feel confident about using him as their second baseman, rather than paying Mark Ellis. Then we can swoop in, nab Ellis, and move Phillips to short. Go, Clan Patterson, go!

but...

what if in order for this to happen, the Reds have to bring back Corey next season? If we landed Ellis and Corey didn’t get more than a million space bucks, I’d probably be okay with it. As long as Corey is not the presumptive CF next season.
