best reds manager thread
Its pretty obvious Sparky is going to win this in a landslide. I think Hutch would be 2nd, and Sweet Lou takes the bronze.
Who else garnes some votes? Pete had four 2nd place finishes in a row, didnt he? I miss those days. McKeon got us to a one game playoff almost a decade ago, and Johnson had one postseason appearance(with a series win over the Dodgers).
Dusty aint gonna make the list, but he has to be the highest paid, isnt he? And he's gonna be here for a couple more years.
So.....if you could make the decision on the next Reds manager who would YOU select???
its totally nontraditional, but Im leaning towards Greg Vaughn. I keep hearing how much of a leader he was in the clubhouse.

Wait
I’m confused. Is this a best manager thread, or who would I choose for manager now?

Best manager ? why not who's the 2nd best manager
or better yet name the 5 worst manager’s since 1950…

I would choose someone young and relatively raw
Crolfer – nah not raw enough
I like billy Hatcher as a candidate
Maybe he’s too entrenched in traditional ball
Chris Speier could be interesting

I'd like to see someone like Hillman
Young and forward thinking. I’m okay with managers making the occasional mistake, really. What infuriates me id when a manager stubbornly sticks to his guns (or The Book) when all evidence points to it being foolish.

I'll go with Sparky,
although it might be the sentiment of the Big Red Machine of my childhood slightly coloring that selection. My top Reds managers:
1. Sparky
2. Lou.
3. Davey Johnson.
Who would I realistically pick for the future:
1. Lenn Sakata, former Giants minor league manager now in Japan.
2. Matt Walbeck, Rangers third base coach.
3. Orel Hershiser.

I always liked Davey Johnson better than Lou Piniella
I don’t know why, but I just did.
Jack McKeon deserves a mention too, if only because that team was so young when he took it over and yet they played pretty well. Then again, the 1990 team was even younger. This year’s team is old by comparison.

I always liked Davey Johnson too..
It could be because I was a little older and more aware when he was here. It astonishes me that he has such a hard time getting jobs…

Hershiser is my favorite player of all time ....
why he keeps getting overlooked for a job is beyond me. the man was lasorda’s right hand man for the entire time he was there. if anything he should have picked up enough managerial knowledge just be standing next to him all those years.

The manager doesn't matter
when the team is as bad as this one is right now.

But...
the common theme is that “The Reds have too much talent to be playing this poorly.” I don’t know if this is true, and I doubt a new manager would make a drastic difference, but both sides of thought have a point.

Batting order alone could win some games
Line ups too. Not to mention not knowing your players well enough to know who can or can’t bunt. the list goes on. I believe a manager can make a significant difference in how a talented but under performing team plays. How the BP is used, how long a struggling starter is left in the game, double switches, improper defensive changes, allowing unprofessional ABs…the list goes on and on.

It's not true
I don’t know why people thought this team was going to be good. Was it because we signed a “closer?”

Not best, but my favorite mgrs. for entertainment value
1) Bob Boone- he made the desire to bitch about him a pleasure.
2) Jerry Narron- I could never understand him when he spoke, so I made up my own quotes and mine were always funnier.
3) Peter Edward Rose- 2 words- Rat Tail.
4) Lou- I had never seen anyone throw a base before.
5) Ron Oester- To hear him tell it, he was the manager for a few hours before his salary was undercut. His tenure marked the best baseball the Reds have played in 15 years.

I saw a rat tail
At the Harrison Ave. Meijer last weekend. I love the area I live in. The entertainment quotient is off the charts.

1.Dan Uggla plays for the Marlins, 2)who used to have A.J. Burnett 3)who dated Alyssa Milano 4) who appeared in Bop Magazine with Sean Astin 5) who starred in “White Water Summer” with….6) Kevin Bacon!

I'd go with
Sparky Anderson also. McKenchie would be my 2nd vote but I would pick Pat Moran and Lou Pinella tied for 3rd. just my .02 :)
I was thinking of making a comeback until I pulled a muscle -- vacuuming.
