Leave Dunn Alone
Im so tired of listening to people talk about how the Reds should trade Adam Dunn. Dunn has hit 40 hrs or more the past 4 years in Cincinnati and is definitely on pace to do it again this year. Dunn is tied right now for first in hrs with Ryan Howard. Yes I know he strikes out alot but he also has the most walks in baseball. With his contract being up next year no one knows if the Reds will sign him back. We all know the Reds are not going to sign Griffery back so they should be getting some money back there although he has a 4 million dollar buyout. I still think the they should try to sign a starter in the offseason but I dont know if they will have the money to sign one if they sign Dunn back plus giving Francisco Cordero that huge contract. All I am saying is I dont know if I would let a guy go that you can count on hitting 40 hrs or more for the next few years.

Compare the Reds All-Time Home Run list with the "Greatest Red of All-Time Vote":
Reds All-Time Home Run Leaders
1. Johnny Bench – 389
2. Frank Robinson – 324
3. Tony Perez – 287
4. Adam Dunn – 267
5. Ted Kluszewski – 251
6. George Foster – 244
7. Ken Griffey, Jr. – 209
8. Eric Davis – 203
9. Barry Larkin – 198
10. Vada Pinson – 186
11. Wally Post – 172
12. Gus Bell – 160
13. Joe Morgan – 152
13. Pete Rose – 152
15. Lee May – 147
16. Dan Driessen – 133
17. Reggie Sanders – 125
18. Ernie Lombardi – 120
19. Sean Casey – 118
20. Frank McCormick – 110
21. Dave Parker – 107
22. Chris Sabo – 104
23. Dave Concepcion – 101
24. Gordy Coleman – 98
25. Paul O’Neill – 96
If he stays with the Reds, when its all said and done, he will be included in any similar votes in the future. He has already passed Larkin, Kluszewski, Rose, Morgan, going to pass Perez, and if he stays on for the long run, he will guaranteed pass Johnny Bench! Everyone needs to stop hating all the time, what do you want Barry Bonds? This is home natural home run hitters should be, but because of the steroids era, everyone sees a home run hitter differently. They want the home run hitter who can steal bases and make catches like Griffey and Willie Mays. Well Mays and Griffey are once in a generation players at outfield, peoples expectations have drastically changed in what they think a “power hitter” is and should be. In my mind A-Rods on the juice too, get him right outta town while were at it!

Additionally:
Everyone is undermining his friendship/mentor status with Jay Bruce (our future). Why should we piss off our franchise player by getting rid of the player he is closest too on the team? He already will be put down that his childhood hero Ken Griffey Jr. isn’t his teammate any longer so how about we save him the punch in the stomach and keep Dunn around. Its not like Dunn won’t produce as always expected and keep the young players upbeat. We need a mix of vets and young talent. With guys like Kep and Dunn around they will want the team to strive to win not wait for the future, Dunn also has been a Red his entire career, so regardless of what everyone says he has pride in the Reds and this city.

it's pretty much nonstop with you, Michael
I think you’ll find a lot of sympathy for your thoughts on this site, baseballfan62593 – if that’s your real name. Most people on here that advocate trading Dunn do so with the thought that he won’t be signed, so they should try to get more than draft picks for him. In general, most on here would be more than pleased with bringing Dunn back for another 3 years.

FWIW
I really don’t have a problem with people not liking Dunn. I understand why he’s a polarizing figure. What I don’t like is people who refuse to even discuss the possibility that he is a good player. That shit pisses me off.

Hey, thanks for taking my call...
I’ve been a Reds fan since ‘75-you know, thebigredmachine-but I dunno about this team. I’m really tired of that Encarnacion. He’s good sometimes then he’s not. We should trade him for CC Sabathia. Keppinger could take his place just fine.
It doesn’t really work without the slurred words.

I think that most of us are in agreement regarding Dunn's valueif not his future with the team.
But what about these guys?
(FWIW, I think Biden’s name is on this list primarily because he’s asked to have his ego stroked behind leaky closed doors.)

VA, represent!
While I like that Tim Kaine (along with folks like Mark Warner) represent a shift towards the middle for Virginia, he hasn’t really done all that much in his time as governor. Part of that might be due to his inability to work with a Republican legislature, I don’t know that that really bodes well for his viability as a veep.
Kaine seems to be some kind of wonder child in the Democratic ranks, and I’ve never really been able to see why. They asked him to speak after the 2007 State of the Union address, I believe. I think the biggest thing he has going for him is that he’s a Democrat, and he won in a southern state. That’s misleading though. He didn’t win decisively, and any Virginian will go on at length about the differences between Northern Virginia and the rest of the commonwealth.
Northern Virginia essentially refers to the greater Washington, DC metro areas, principally Arlington County inside the Beltway, and Fairfax County, and possibly Loudoun County. These are suburbs and exurbs of Washington, DC, and they vote Democrat in big numbers. The rest of the state is much more conservative (illustrative example that I didn’t realize until I moved here: Lynchburg and Blacksburg are right next to each other. That’s Lynchburg and Blacksburg). So Arlington County, which is the smallest county in Virginia, but also the most populous, has a ridiculous amount of sway over the politics of the rest of the commonwealth. If Democrats can win that area decisively, they have a pretty good shot to carry the state as a whole, or at least make a race of it.
This area is also home to quite a few members of the military, though. That, coupled with the naval base in Newport News, is going to help John McCain a lot more than another candidate. Tim Kaine might help to counteract that a little, but he doesn’t have any kind of military record that might help, not like a Jim Webb. Kaine would have been the veep choice to excite me the most, but I’m a little underwhelmed by him too.

Curious
does anyone know what the Reds win-loss record would be if we replaced Dunn with a league average OF? then what would it be if we replaced Griffey with average?
The main reason I ask, I support Dunn as much as the next RR, but what will his increase in salary get us? and what would our record have been this year if we did not have Dunn & Griff but two average dudes? just looking for an idea of what next year may potentially look like.
by jacob brumfield on Jul 29, 2008 4:21 PM EDT 0 recs
Looking at replacement level players based on Justin Inaz's calculations
Dunn is worth about 2.8 wins over a replacement level player so far this season – he was worth about 3.6 wins last season. Griffey is worth about 0.5 wins over a replacement level compared to 2.6 WAR last season. Those numbers would be slightly lower when compared to average (Griffey would likely be negative), since replacement level is below average.

Trade, that is. Rumored among the Sox, Dodgers, and Braves. Dodgers would get Manny, Sox would get players they’d flip for Teixeira.

At this point he’s one of the main reasons I actually go to GABP,,,it sure isn’t to see Corey Patterson, Andy Phillips or Dusty Baker.

A blurb out on Dunn
From SI:
Finally, there appears to be some action on Reds slugger Adam Dunn. An NL source says at least two teams are expressing interest in the formerly unwanted star. Dunn is the Major League leader in home runs (over No. 2 Alex Rodriguez) and walks (over Todd Helton) over the past five years. Maybe somebody’s finally realizing that.
Not sure if its worth anything, but we are getting down to the wire.
