Failures only: At least we've got the dude
Were it not for Mesoraco, Rip Torn would be making another appearance.
Triple-A: The Bats squeaked out just 4 hits in a 2-0 loss. Nobody did anything good. The entire game.
Double-A: The Lookouts squeezed out just 5 hits in a 9-0 loss. Nobody did anything good. The entire game. Chris Valaika had one of the hits, but he also struck out 3 times.
Low A: Dayton lost 9-3, but at least Devin Mesoraco went 2 for 4 with a homer. Brandon Waring tripled, but the good pretty much ends there.
Rookies: Mike Konstanty homered and Tyler Stovall was 2 for 5 in Billings' 8-4 loss. That wasn't enough bad for the Mustangs, so they threw in 4 errors.

The Reds just signed SS Darrick Hale of the Yuma Scorpions
of the independent Golden Baseball League. Hale, a switch-hitter, starred at Cal State-Los Angeles last season where he was an honorable-mention all California Collegiate Athletic Association selection after posting a line of 8-22-.380 .468. A foot injury ended his season early and he went undrafted.
Not earth shattering, but it’s news.

Yonder likely will sign very close to the Aug. 15 deadline.
We’re seeing that more and more of high profile draftees, particularly those who sign for over slot money, which Yonder is almost certainly going to do. That means he likely won’t play much, if at all, this season and will begin his Reds career at Dayton next spring.

Dayton?
i thought i read somewhere that he was pretty polished and was close to big-league ready. could he possibly start higher, like A+ or AA? or do most prospects start that low regardless?
please dont shit on my dreams. i dont want shit on my dreams.

He could begin at Sarasota.
If he starts at Dayton I don’t think he would spend much time there before moving up. I assumed Dayton because he won’t have played in a live game since June so he could be eased a bit into pro ball and because I’m generally more conservative with prospects. I could easily see him tearing up the Midwest League, even though it’s a pitcher’s circuit, for a few weeks before being bumped up and even finishing the year at Chattanooga.

Earth shattering to Darrick
Should have been drafted-even the scouts said should have gone in the 24th round easily-the injury had them concerned but it was minor! He was at 80% recovered when the draft took place and had a letter from the recognized sports Dr. Hle was leading the league in HR’s and numerous other catagories when he was injured-even though he didn’t finish they still couldn’t beat/catch his stats for batting avg-he was in top 5, triples top 3 slugging pct #1 anf on base pct #4-Go Reds!

Unwitting gardener man tends marijuana plants
Fri Jul 25, 2008 12:04pm EDTAMSTERDAM (Reuters) – A 73-year-old Dutch man was astonished to learn from police that the begonias he had lovingly tended on his doorstep concealed a secret marijuana plantation.
“Police officers suddenly noticed marijuana plants sprouting from his begonias,” a police spokeswoman in The Hague said on Friday.
The Hague pensioner promised to destroy the marijuana plants, which he believes were planted by local youngsters, while preserving his begonias.
Earlier this month the Dutch government set up a task force to crack down on marijuana cultivation in the country.
Growing marijuana is illegal in the Netherlands, but sales of it and other cannabis-related soft drugs in coffee shops have been tolerated for decades.

I'm not sure if any of y'all are big college football blog fans...
but Every Day Should be Saturday is pretty damned hilarious. And they have this recurring “Visiting Lecturer Series” where they have college blogs talk about their teams.
One of the questions they ask is “What historical nation and period do you resemble most right now?” and my point is, if someone asked the Reds this question, is there any doubt that the answer would be “Mid-1990’s Somalia”?

So you're saying that Dusty is the Joseph Goebbels of the regime?
I hear he’s working on a documentary called “The Triumph of the Buntmaster”. He has a Cub’s fan filming it. This is the fan rumored to be in charge of the Film:![]()
Note the beady eyes, the curling lip, the glaze of Cub fandom across his face,,,

As if I had one! Seriously Yes Goebbels was a fucking Nazi and Mussolini was a Fascist…I don’t mean to in any way( seriously ) suggest that Dusty is either…just a play off of Man Mountain’s and TT’s posts… Dusty is the mouthpiece for Castellini so maybe this is more of a Mafia connection.

since this is already a downer thread
Marcus McBeth with his 6.75 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 14 BB in 22.2 innings has been a let down. Is he injured? I was really hoping that he could become a solid middle reliever. His stuff looked to be good enough.
Also Pedro Viola doesn’t look nearly as bright as he did last year. His ERA in AA is 5.58 with a 1.68 WHIP. He still has 56 K’s in 50 innings, but he also has 26 BB.
