Fair amouont of swapping going on today.

The Cardinals sent Anthony Reyes to Cleveland for AA RHP Luis Perdomo, who has potential but has been a bit old for his levels of competition through his career. Good pickup for the Indians.

Cleveland also dealt Casey Blake to LA for Jon Meloan and catcher Carlos Santana, who is a good-looking prospect. Another good deal for the Indians, although I’ve never been a Meloan fan. Santana can hit, is solid defensively and has a strong arm, not to mention he plays a killer guitar.

HOpefully that guy who lost his horse calls the banana phone with an update

I met Marty last week!

I kept thinking that I was going to make this a FanWhatever but I haven’t.

I was at a luncheon last week where Marty spoke. He spoke for about an hour on whatever he felt like talking about and answered questions for 15 minutes. He was very entertaining and a great luncheon speaker. I’m not always a Marty fan but the guy is a legend for a reason.

He talked a lot about Joe. He even choked up about it. He told a great story about Joe, a former manager, a stripper and Bob Trumpy. I don’t want to tell the story b/c its really good and he can tell it better than I can write it.

He also talked about how he should have been fired for some of the things that he has said over the years. The night before he had really gone off on the team. He also said that he was going through a divorce and he was not going to be able to afford to retire for a while. This was the first that I had heard of this divorce. Has anyone heard that?

So we could get our picture taken with Marty after he spoke (I haven’t gotten mine sent to me yet). After I got my picture taken with him I asked him whether that was a prank when the guy in Maine called about his horse. Marty said that initially he thought it was a prank but as the call went on he realized the guy was serious. He said that it was by far the best call they’d ever gotten.

He also told the group that he is do dumbfounded that Corey Patterson is still on the team that he doesn’t even mention it anymore. He just feels sorry for him.

I know return you to your .gifs.

If you're not having fun, stop participating.

It can be an odd experience talking to rock stars

I went to see the Dirtbombs open for Spiritualized last night. The lead singer/guitarist for the Dirtbombs is Mick Collins, this tall, ripped black guy who looks like the coolest motherfucker on the planet when he’s onstage.

When Spiritualized started playing, I wasn’t really feeling it and decided to go home. I turned to go, and Mick was standing right next to me. So I patted him on the back and told him he played a great show. He just looked really surprised, and said thanks. I just thought, “Dude, don’t you know that you just kicked so much ass? It’s astonishing that you can seem that surprised and genuinely grateful that I enjoyed myself.”

First, Spiritualized sucked?

I loved Spacemen3 and the early records but I have not heard the new one. But yeah, I know what you mean. I had a crazy maddening crush on Carla Buzolich from Geraldine Fibbers (and Ethel Meatplow, and Watt’s first solo). I’m not a starstuck kind of person, but I thought her turds could not possibly have an odor. When I met her, she was clearly upset that the music was subpar and the set sucked and did I know Such and Such in Atlanta (which is where we were, and the Such and Such was Chan Marshal of Catpower fame, and yes I knew her, but that’s another story). Anyway, I was so disappionted in the experience of meeting her that I got drunk in an embarassing was and blithered on about Daniel Johnston for too long…

Funny

I saw Bob there a coupla years back. He had the best line I’d ever heard from a performer being fucked with after someone threw a beer bottle near him on the stage… he stopped the song and took his time, and took a long drink and looked out into the crowd and said, “You know, I don’t think that I would have paid $15 to get MY ass kicked.” Then launched into Hot Freaks. Perfect moment.

Kepp

Does it seem like kep is never where the ball is hit at short? Balls are sneaking by him to his left then to right then right again. Bad luck i guess.

That

Dusty waited to long again

After the Reds lost the lead they should have made the move. Bad night for Homer(admittably, nothing was hit overly hard, but his location was bad).

by Johnnypronto on Jul 26, 2008 9:23 PM EDT reply actions

It wasn't that bad.

He was one out and one earned run away from a quality start!

15 hits is a bad night

Granted 14 freaking singles is unbelievable. Either the Reds can’t play d or it just all went the right way.

by Johnnypronto on Jul 26, 2008 9:27 PM EDT up reply actions

If Homer had the Rockies D behind him

that hit number would have been cut in half. And he kept the ball down, and in the park. There was certainly some good out of this performance.

No doubt

If Jocketty wants exibit A why this team gives up runs, the bad defense tonight gave it to him. 14 singles is simply unreal. That said, Bailey did not have a good night. His ab vs. Holiday was very good.

The loss of his breaking pitch and switch to the slider has kept him back. Once his offspeed stuff comes around, he will be fine.

Seapking of the Peoria/Dayton game

During the Cubs game today, Len Kasper said that he will reserve judgment until he hears what exactly was said down on field to provoke the mayhem. What a jackass. What could possibly justify throwing a baseball towards a dugout and into the stands like that?

This evening's bludgeon fest

is the Mexican journeyman Margarito vs. the body punching Puerto Rican mauler in Cotto. No one wanted a fight with either of these guys, Certainly not Mayweather, and fo’ sho’ not De La Hoya. So, they have to fight each other. For a while there, welterweights were the best and most interesting weight class.
