Game 104: Reds vs Rockies
Colorado Rockies at Cincinnati Reds, Jul 25, 2008 7:10 PM EDT
|
|
|
Two All Stars face off tonight as the Reds continue their push toward .500. Did you know the Reds have the 7th most wins in the NL? Impressive, I know. Seriously though, I know a winning season is a lame goal and all, but I need a goal at this point, so even if it is just 82-80, I'm rooting for them to bring home a winning record. That, and I'd like to see them catch and pass the Cardinals. They are 6.5 behind the Redbirds right now. I don't know if they can get 'em, but 3rd place in this division wouldn't be a total failure.

and g’night everybody. I’m outta internet access for awhile. Like the pitching match up, hope we can draw ever closer to that elusive .500
I got 99 problems but a job ain't one.
This quote came from Dicky Lyons about Georgia QB Matthew Stafford at SEC Media Days. I think it's funny
“I actually had a dream about Matt Stafford last night. You want me to tell you the dream? I’ll tell you. Well, I just got engaged to my fiance and I’ve been having these crazy dreams about her leaving me. Cosmo says its natural. So I’m having this dream that she’s leaving me and I went out following her because, you know, I had suspicions. I find her at a bar and so up to her and trying to say, ‘What are you doing?’ and she tells me she doesn’t want to marry me so I’m trying to shake her and slap her to get her to focus. I turn around and Matt Stafford punches me in the nose and said, ‘You don’t hit women.’ All the sudden the backup quarterback that is now at Delta State, Blake Barnes, comes hitting me and I’m fighting all these quarterbacks from the Manning camp start jumping in. I was doing pretty well fighting them off, twisting their arms because I know all these Army Ranger moves in my dream. I was laughing about it so I texted (Stafford) and told him. He didn’t respond. I don’t know if he likes me that much."

This from Jayson Stark
Even with the trading deadline less than a week away, the Reds have had very little action on Adam Dunn. But one club that spoke with the Reds says the Yankees have explored what it would take to plug Dunn into their revolving outfield/DH vacancies. The Reds, however, are continuing to ask teams for one top-of-the-line prospect and one second-tier prospect. And that’s probably more than the Yankees are inclined to give up for Dunn.
So hey, umm....do you guys mind if I have this fruit roll-up?
by chandrathan on Jul 25, 2008 5:46 PM EDT reply actions
The Yankees are desperate
This is the team that freaked out at the idea of losing Chad Moeller.
They’ve been ravaged by injuries this year (perhaps not surprising given the team’s age). Posada and Matsui may be facing season-ending surgery. Damon has been injured, too. Melky’s not injured, he just sucks.
I guess Dunn would be to replace Matsui/Damon in left field, but what the Yanks really need is a right-handed slugger who can play good defense. Ideally, CF. And a good catcher. But those kinds of players aren’t exactly thick on the ground.
However, the other big rumor these days is Barry Bonds. I’d rather have Dunn.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Cubs lost again today
I was really hoping their collapse would be closer to the end of the season, but I’m enjoying it nonetheless.

A dumb question to be sure
But I’ve never understood not giving a great hitter the green light on 3-0. It’s ALWAYS bothered me. Everyone knows exactly what’s coming – a fastball down the middle of the plate. Why not give one the world’s best athletes a chance to drive that crap 450 feet?
sig lines are for suckas
Nibbling for most hitters
but when a great hitter is up 3-0, I feel like you get the unintentional-intentional BB more often than a belt-high fastball.
I hear ya
But I can’t believe that you don’t occasionally give them the green light just to keep people honest, if nothing else.

Not down by 6 runs
The base runner is important and at that point putting the ball in play could be counter productive. But yeah, you’d think you’d see it a little more often.
