Farmers only: The Curious Case of Rob Mackowiak

Rob Mackowiak
Mackowiak

Triple-A: Alvin Colina was 2 for 4 with a walk-off, 2-run double in the Bats' 2-1 win. Shaun Cumberland was 1 for 4, Carlos Fisher pitched 2 hitless innings and Rob Mackowiak went 1 for 4 again to extend his hitting streak to 17 games and lower his batting average again, now down to .313.

Double-A: The Lookouts struck with a run in the last 4 innings but fell 6-5. Sean Henry, Chris Valaika and Drew Stubbs all had 2 hits, and Sean Watson struck out 1 and allowed a walk and 2 hits without letting in a run, somehow.

Low A: Zach Cozart (on fire) went 2 for 4 and Brandon Waring homered in Dayton's 4-3 win. Cozart is batting .366 with 9 RBIs in his past 10 games. Neftali Soto doubled, and Devin Mesoraco was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Rookies: Alexis Oliveras hit his first homer of the season in the G-Reds' 9-4 loss. Evan Hildenbrandt struck out 7 in four innings but allowed 5 runs and took the loss. ... DSL boxscores don't update until late at night for some reason, so I'll update this later with that information.

No Angel Cabrera?

Kid hits a walk off HR and doesn’t even get a mention?

DSL Reds are almost always the last team to update the box scores through milb.com, but if you check dominicansummerleague.com around 9-11pm they have it up almost always.

No Ramon Ramirez?

In seven innings for the Bats, he struck out 5 (4 of them coming consecutively) , and allowed only 3 hits (one in the first, and two in the sixth), 2 walks, and one earned run.

I don't think Jayson Stark really cares about the minor leagues

but someone needs to let him know about this Mackowiak streak. Shit like that is right up his alley.

Latest on Thompson?

Anyone heard about his sholder injury. I know they said they don’t think its serious but he does have a history.

7-day DL

so probably nothing worth exclamation marks over. Not good, either, thoguh.

What chy’all think of moving Cozart to Sarasota and moving the rest of the shortstops up a level? Good idea, or let him get confidence in Dayton?

Also, if Stubbs can keep hitting remotely like this, he can get up to Louisville before the end of the year, with a possibility to get Bruce’d into the lineup in ‘09. That’d be fun, eh?

...because there's already someone posing as Jacob Brumfield

7-day DL

is all they have in the minors. No 15-day, no 60-day. You get put on the 7-day DL even if you’re having season-ending surgery.

Not that I think that’s what’s happening with Thompson. Just that the 7-day DL doesn’t mean much. There’s nothing else in the minors.
