Farmers only: Juan Brawn
Triple-A: Rob Mackowiak's average continues to tumble, but he homered and extended his hitting streak to 16 games as Louisville won 7-5. Mackowiak was 1 for 4, and Adam Rosales was 2 for 5 with a homer. Shaun Cumberland and Chris Dickerson also had 2 hits.
High A: Juan Francisco was 3 for 4 with a double in Sarasota's 8-3 loss. Francisco is 10 for 22 (.455) over his past 6 games with an .818 slugging percentage and 9 RBIs. Alexander Smit walked 7 in 5.1 innings and took the loss. Todd Frazier was 0 for 4, and Cody Puckett is hitless in 2 games with the S-Reds.
Rookies: Billings had just 4 hits in a 7-4 loss. ... Frederman Lopez homered in the G-Reds' 8-3, 12-inning win.

Frederman Lopez, Keltavious Jones
I’m just excited for some of the names we have in our system.
Oh, and that Mackowiak hitting streak/shrinking batting average thing is truly bizarre and impressive. Just another example of the weirdness that makes baseball so wonderful.

Man Mountain: I doubt he will come up to the reds, as he is not on the 40 man.
Mackowaik has only hit once in his last 13 games, so that is why his avg is going down!

Gray: Sorry, that was bad wording by me. I meant that Mackowiak has hit only once IN EACH OF HIS LAST 13 GAMES. I just noticed that the reds 40 man only has 39 men right now, so depending on how the trading goes, I guess Mackowiak could be called up!

We're never going to call Dickerson up, eh?
Despite that he’d almost certainly be better than Patterson.
Sigh.
I'm not having even a mediocre year.

Here is what I think about Dickerson.
Defense: Dickerson is defensively ready for the majors. Last night he ended the game with an amazing catch, and two nights before that, he finished the 1st inning with two consecutive amazing catches.
Offence: If batting average was all that counted, Dickerson would be ready. After a bad start to the year, Dickerson has hit .310 since the start of June. However, with the current outfeild, the batting average is not all that counts. Dickerson would be primerily used as a defensive replacement and pinch hitter. Dickerson’s downfall is the strike out, which is exactly what you don’t want in a pinch hitter. Let’s compare Dickerson’s batting average and strikeout average:
April: .241 BAVG, .313 SOAVG, 83 AB
May: .234 BAVG, .250 SOAVG, 64 AB
June: .301 BAVG, .273 SOAVG, 73 AB
July: .319 BAVG, .319 SOAVG, 69 AB so far
By looking at that, it seems that while he has been working on his hitting, he has been striking out more and more since May. But how much more? Lets see what percent of his outs are strikeouts:
April: .412
May: .326
June: .392
July: .468
Looking at these numbers makes me think that his batting average increase is caused not by improving his swing, and his eye for the ball, but by swinging a lot more. Of course, he has been walking a lot more, which might contradict this, but I think that he needs to develop a better eye for the ball while at the plate, before he can succeed at the MLB level.
