Farmers only and the Devin Double
Triple-A: Bobby Livingston's Louisville debut didn't go quite as well as he hoped. He gave up 7 runs and 8 hits in the Bats' 8-3 loss. B.J. Szymanski hit his first Triple-A homer, and Josh Roenicke struck out 2 and allowed a hit in 2 innings. Not that he'll get it, but I think he's ready for the call-up.
High A: Juan Francisco was 2 for 4 with a double and a grand slam in Sarasota's 4-3 win. Francisco took the lead from Chris Valaika for RBIs (64) in the Reds' system. Zach Stewart continues to mince pro hitters, striking out 4 in 2 innings for his first save for the S-Reds.
Low A: Devin Mesoraco was 3 for 4 with 2 homers in Dayton's 8-4 win. Neftali Soto also homered, and Zach Cozart was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 RBIs. To top all that off, Jeremy Horst allowed just 1 hit and 1 walk in 5 shutout innings, striking out 6. His ERA's down to 2.70. Nice day for the Dragons.
Rookies: Michael Konstanty was 2 for 3 with the go-ahead RBI single as Billings won 2-1. He's batting .424 with a .537 OBP in his past 10 games. ... Humberto Sosa homered in Game 1, a 2-1 loss, and "Stat" Kuo was 2 for 3 in a 5-1 win for the G-Reds. ... The D-Reds lost 6-3.

Daryl Thompson is on the DL
According to Fay:
Right-hander Daryl Thompson is on the DL at Triple-A Louisville with a shoulder strain.“We don’t think it’s too serious,” said Terry Reynolds, the Reds director of player development. “We think with rest and rehab he’ll be able to pitch again this year.”
A shoulder problem with any pitcher has to be a reason for concern, particularly one like Thompson who has has shoulder surgery two years ago.
Thompson, 22, hasn’t pitched since his July 13 start. He’s 5-0 with a 2.95 ERA at Louisville. He started the year at Double-A Chattanooga was went 3-2 with a 1.76 ERA.

Josh Roenicke would be an interesting alternative to the closer
For those who feel that Cordero should be given a little break. Roenicke actually seems closer to the Burton mode of pitchers, and it might have been nice to see him called up instead of Coffey to replace Burton. At any rate, I’m excited for him, and for Zach Stewart. Climb that ladder!

Is there not a newer pic of Mesoraco?
That one is unsettling to me, I always hear “You raaaaaaaang?” when I see it.

i hate it, too
he doesnt have an milb.com mug, and he doesnt really have one at all on google images. Baseball America uses a much better mug in their annual, but I can’t find it online. So if anyone can find a better mug (little headshot) of Mesoraco, please please post it.

Do the Astros think they're buyers?
Why else would they be trading for a starter?

scene:
Cecil Cooper: I don’t wanna hear about no motherfucking ifs! All I wanna hear from your ass is, “You ain’t got no problem, Cecil, I’m on the motherfucker. Go back in there, chill them niggas out and wait for the cavalry, which should be coming directly.”
Drayton MacLane: You ain’t got no problem, Cecil. I’m on the motherfucker. Go back in there, chill them niggas out and wait for the Wolf, who should be coming directly.
Cecil Cooper: You sending the Wolf?
Drayton MacLane: Feel better, motherfucker?
Cecil Cooper: Shit yeah, Negro! That’s all you had to say!

Scene II: Int. Astros clubhouse
Hunter Pence: A “please” would be nice.
The Wolf: Come again?
Hunter Pence: I said a “please” would be nice.
The Wolf: Get it straight, Buster. I’m not here to say “please”. I’m here to tell you what to do. And if self-preservation is an instinct you possess, you better fucking do it and do it quick. I’m here to help. If my help’s not appreciated, lots of luck, gentlemen.
Lance Berkman: No no, Mr. Wolf, it’s not like that. Your help is definitely appreciated.
Hunter Pence: Look, Mr. Wolf, I respect you. I just don’t like people barking orders at me, that’s all.
The Wolf: If I’m curt with you, it’s because time is a factor. I think fast, I talk fast, and I need you two guys to act fast if you want to get out of this. So pretty please, with sugar on top – win the fucking wild card!

Some interesting stuff from C. Trent
The Reds are bidding adieu to Sarasota and heading to Arizona because the city wouldn’t upgrade their facilities… but now Sarasota is trying to bring the Red Sox to town. I hope it rains good and hard in Sarasota every spring from 2010 onwards.
And Mike Brown had a good retort to Carson Palmer’s comments about Ohio State:
Mike Brown on Carson Palmer’s statement about Ohio State:
“I don’t know if he knows my dad coached them to two straight wins over USC, 33-0, 26-12. If he wants to make something out of it, he knows where to find me.”
Trent assures us that Brown was joking, and was taking the whole thing lightly.
Oh, and Javy is starting at 1B tonight. Fan-flippin’-tastic.
