All Star Day Open Thread
Anybody know what happened in the HR Derby last night? If so, let chandrathan know. He was busy watching Yo Gabba Gabba.
I was hoping to have links to interesting stuff today, but I don't. I was also hoping to have a kick ass pitch fx analysis up today, but I don't. So, I leave you with this thread for your topics of choice. Let your fellow man and woman know whatever is on your mind. We'll hopefully have a separate game thread tonight, unless we don't.
Does anybody have any awesome insight to the first 96 games of the season? Who do you think is going to be traded by the end of the month? What do you think of the Beverly Hills 90210 reunion show or for that matter, the return of New Kids on the Block? Is '90s retro suddenly becoming hip? That makes me feel old.
[UPDATE: Use this thread for the game itself]

JOSH HAMILTON ROXORZZZ!!!!1!
Seriously, that was one of the most incredible things I’ve seen on a baseball diamond. I kept hoping he would hit one into the lights, and then run around the bases.
If you really want to feel old
I was listening to Nothing’s Shocking by Jane’s Addiction the other day, when I realized the album was 20 years old. Yup, TWENTY. Put another way, more time has passed since that album was released than had passed between its release and the moon landing.
Also, it’s been ten years since ”...Hit Me Baby, One More Time.”
feeling old
i wasnt really old enough to appreciate the fever of the New Kids and Beverley Hills. so i feel pretty old to hear that these things have died and looped back into style.
and i missed Hobbs’ coronation last night because my wife wanted to watch “The Mole”. i feel about as low as Madonna felt when she found out she missed Tailhook.

More on feeling old
My wife hijacked the remote the other night, so I sat through part of the Miss Universe broadcast. They were playing a catchy neo-R&B song in the backgorund. Turns out that it’s performed by Robin Thicke. I had no idea who he was, but that’s fine because I’m always behind on that kind of stuff. But realizing that he’s the son of the dude who played the father in Growing Pains was a definite “welcome to your 30s!” moment.

if I showed you that picture at any time in the past 10 years up to and including the beginning of the season, would you have bet that the best OPS in that picture would be Cherry?

That’s a funny way to show your affection for an Irish Arsehole.
W.W.Q.S.Y.D?----What Would the Queer Son Of Yaweh Do?
A/S/L?
I’m really bad at this sort of thing but…...would you like to go to get a bite to eat sometime?
So far.
At the half way point I have one positive and one negative.
+. Volquez—only guy keeping us out of the cellar, would do the trade again in a heartbeat.
-. Lack of roster moves. We suck, and to get things rolling we drop Patterson down to AAA, only to bring him back up again.
I want Krivsky back. The guy was a roster tweaking madman and I loved it. He recognized our flaws and put effort into trying to correct them. Why do the Reds keep putting sucky players on the field? Why are the Reds letting Dusty influence the front office? (Patterson) How come this season has been so annoying?

Dusty and Jock haven't had a whole season to see the roster

i dont think
it would hurt dusty to think just a tad outside of the box for once and maybe see a lineup that doesnt have jr. or dunn in our rbi spots and try votto or bruce there just to see how the future may look? it seems liek that would be too hard for him to do he mite wake up at night and write it down then roll over the next morning and have a stroke that he wrote votto in the 3hole and bruce 5th
As Mom's 105 yr. old byfriends says:
“Dusty Baker has never had an original idea in his life.” End of story.
"When I got my award, I just wore my usual stuff," Dunn said.
"Was it for the Reds organization or all of baseball?" Bruce said.
Nice pic
I always wonder how pro sports photographers avoid blur in night photos, when there’s not enough light to freeze the action. I’m starting to suspect they just pick photos where there’s a slight pause, and hence no blur. Unless they’re going for the motion effect, of course.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
They have very fast lenses, for one.
Also their cameras are usually pretty stable, so they avoid vibration blur. But oh, to have superfast professional sports photog lenses…
I'm not having even a mediocre year.
I've got a fast lens
And usually use at least a monopod if it’s allowed.
However, I can’t get as close as the pros get, and that probably makes a difference.

REDS FINALIZE DEAL FOR NEW SPRING HOME
Team Moving Spring Training Facilities to Arizona in 2010The Cincinnati Reds and the City of Goodyear, Ariz., have
finalized the terms on a binding use agreement that paves
the way for the team to move its spring training facilities
there in 2010. The agreement includes a 20-year lease and
two five-year team options. The city has agreed to build a $32 million facility for the
Reds, including a 40,700-square-foot clubhouse, six full
practice fields and two half fields. A 10,000-seat stadium
will be shared with the Indians, who will move to Goodyear
in 2009. Cincinnati’s portion of the facility will break
ground this fall.Sarasota, Fla., has been the Reds’ Spring Training home
since 1998.

Where were Sparky and Johnny Bench? And how come Willie Mays gets all built up but Hank Aaron gets mentioned in passing? I hate when they do these sappy things because they always seem to mess something up.

Starting in the sixth inning, you can vote for the All-Star Game MVP.
Wait, what if something big happens near the end of the game?
My friend with a TV seems to have fallen through. It may come down to going to some crappy anglophone bar and getting them to flip to the game.
