FBI and MLB Investigating Jim Bowden and Jose Rijo.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3483972
Apparently there is suscipsion that Bowden was Rjio were taking kickbacks from the Latin Players they signed. I would love to see Bowden in an orange leter jumpsuit, but I like Jose Rijo, and I would be really disapointed if he were to be involved in this scandal. Bowden denys any wrong doing (anyone surprised)? The investigation is in its early stages. I wouldn't be surprised if Bowden is guilty of this, it seems so him.

Whoa!
What a fucktard. A few days ago it was reported that at least one GM was facing an FBI investigation . . . and it wasn’t Billy Beane in the Inoa case. No doubt Rijo just got caught up in Bowden’s get rich quick scheme.

Bowden will just play stupid
because he is, Jose will pull a Sosa, speak broken english, act confused and then ask for a translator.
Oh and Eric Milton is a Yankee.

Quick question
the ESPN story says Rijo “is also the son-in-law of Hall of Fame pitcher Juan Marichal.” Wasn’t Marichal’s daughter Rosie? Didn’t Jose and Rosie get divorced? I may be way off on my Reds bloodlines, but that’s the way I remember it.

from the article I linked to a few posts down
a writer who hung out with Rijo el Rojo left this note:
When I finally asked Rijo whom he was calling, he said it was his wife’s answering machine—he was leaving her a serenade.

My guess is that Bowdon is more than guilty
1. He’ll play dumb
2. He’ll have covered his tracks well
3. He will have set Jose up for the fall
4. Jose will have had little or nothing to do with the scam
5. Jose will turn state’s witness
6. Bowden will get a slap on the hand
7. Rio will end up a broken man, high on goofballs and beer
8. One of Rio’s ‘friends’ will whack Bowden
9. Barry Larkin becomes the new gNat’s GM
10. gNats go on to have a very successful 2nd half.
11. Rio goes to rehab
12. Jose becomes a Spanish speaking tele-evangelist and
13. Becomes filth rich and buys the gNats.

He wouldn't be that stupid, would he?
Good grief. He’s probably got more money than he can spend. How many Segways and pairs of leather pants can one person wear? Would he really risk going to jail for what’s gotta be pocket change to him?

he seems to be a little self-destructive
his DUI, and his abilty to say really stupid things.

I think the reactions to all of this are kinda interestin
I posted this story a while ago on Rijo. He’s living the dream, apparently. Runs a baseball camp in La Dominica called The Mountain of Dreams where players are pampered. He sends his nights drinking reposados and rums, chomping on cigars, and goofing off with his buddies. I’d be insanely jealous if I didn’t love the guy so much.
And Jim Bowden is a poorly-dressed douschebag who flirts with women half his age. Which is impressive when you consider that he’s like, 24 years old.
But all the same, BubbaFan has a point. Who would be profiting more from this, Jose or Jim? Jose is the guy who lives in the Dominican, can operate away from US laws easier, and operates within a society that (from what Verka Suduchka (sorry for the misspellings) has told us) is rife with corruption. Not that the US isn’t, of course, but we at least call them “Campaign Contributions” and move on with it.
I think we all want Leather to be the badguy and Cigar to be the good guy here. I know I do. But all the same, it doesn’t look too great for either of them. Just food for thought.

is your screan name in tribute to Pete Schourek?
If it is I thought I was the only person who idolized him based on his 1995 performance.
