Show some balls, tHom!
I was listening to the radio broadcast of the game last night while driving home from work as the 8th inning shenanigans were unfolding. tHom and Brantley were absolutely beside themselves as things unfolded. After LLM was announced as the pinch hitter, tHom said "Someone has to ask Baker what's he's thinking", referring to both the PH and the Votto bunt.
Well...it doesn't appear that Hal did, nor did Fay, nor Daugherty, nor Trent. So which of our "reporters" has the guts to ask Baker what the hell he was thinking (1) by asking Votto, his #5 hitter and a guy who's bunted once in 6 years to attempt a sac, and (2) PHing the world's worst PH for Bruce? Will (or has) one of the Brennemans put him on the spot?
I'm willing to bet Baker never has to answer those questions.

Oh, Dustyevsky can answer them
But this is a guy who thinks that Dunn hits better against Maholm than Duke (.453 OPS vs. 1.636). And that Griffey hits better against Duke than Maholm (.334 vs. .760). He can give you answers. His answers just won’t make a damn lick of sense.
I am totally down with this nickname
There have been a few that haven’t stuck, but now I’m digging out my copy of The Bros Karamazov for quotes to twist. Superb.
You took The Brothers Karamazov with you to Hilton Head?
I want a hamburger. No, a cheeseburger. I want a hot dog. I want a milkshake. I want potato chips...
busted
I mean when I get home. Wouldn’t it be great if I never went anywhere without The Brothers Karamazov? That seems like a fun affectation.
They hand it out at the State line

I am giving the media a pass on not asking Dusty about his 8th inning blunders
because the big story was Griffey’s walk off homerun in the 9th, they probably had kind of forgotten the 8th inning. If the Reds had lost and Dusty was not questioned about it, I would be up in arms. As Brenan says he would probably have an answer at the ready, that would might not make Ariel Sharron cringe.
The Dusty Path to the World Series!*
*Note this is not an endorsment of Dusty Baker.
Finally a name worthy of the Toothpick Man
“Oh, Dustyevsky can answer them”
I am probably the only RR who was not up in arms about LLM hitting for Bruce. Valentin had hit well off the pitcher and Bruce has been struggling aginst esp. LH. The Votto bunt was just plain asinine.
"When I got my award, I just wore my usual stuff," Dunn said.
"Was it for the Reds organization or all of baseball?" Bruce said.
Really?
Over what period of time had Valentin “hit well off” Marte, because he’s 0-7 this year against the Rats? His career OPS vs. LHP (.591) looks good only next to this year’s number (.522). Finally, what does it say to your young hitter whom you’re counting on to be the stud for years to come when you have him sit for such a guy?
Often wrong, never uncertain.
He was 3 for 4 against Marte prior to last night
as we all know, that is more than enough history to be predictive.

Small, tiny sample size...but Jay has been pretty undisciplined as of late.
Maybe a 60-40 move at best, but not a terrible move.

It's not the Cincy media,
but at least some others are noting Dustyevsky’s mistakes last night. Even if it is straight from Mom’s Basement™.
Dudepick
made that genius move of pinch running for Dunn with Corey Patterson yet again. I guess that one hasn’t come back to bite him on the ass enough to learn from it yet. Bunting in big situations with guys who can’t bunt isn’t there yet either. Sample size isn’t good enough for him to realize that LLM sucks. Just give him three years. He’ll come around.
