Cincinnati Reds: The Walk-off Collection

Al Behrman/AP
Junior's shot was the Reds' first and only walk-off hit in June, although that has a lot to do with a 5-game home losing streak and two road trips of at least 8 games. Griffey is the first Red to hit two walk-off shots this season:
- June 30: Ken Griffey Jr. homers (603) to beat the Pirates after Dusty Baker tried his hardest to give the game away
- May 31: Jay "The Boss" Bruce homers (first career home run) to beat the Braves
- May 30: Brandon Phillips single Error on Chipper Jones, scoring Jay Bruce to beat the Braves
- May 17: Adam Dunn homers to beat the Indians
- May 14: Paul Janish singles (first career hit), scoring Johnny Cueto to beat the Marlins
- April 20: Ken Griffey Jr. doubles in Ryan Freel to beat the Brewers
- April 5: Paul Bako singles in Ryan Freel to beat the Phillies
- April 2: Edwin Encarnacion (not a clutch player) homers to beat the Diamondbacks
After the jump, a brief Farmer's Only...

Adam Rosales went 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and a triple in Louisville's 12-8 win over Bryan Bullington and Indianapolis. Rosales is batting .441 over his past 8 games with 4 homers, 4 doubles and a triple. ... Sean Henry was 2 for 5 in Chattanooga's 4-3 win. ... Devin Mesoraco went 1 for 4 for the 7th time in the past 9 games as Dayton lost 6-2. Josh Ravin walked 8 in 3.1 innings. ... Neftali Soto (2 for 5, 2 RBIs) and Alex Buchholz (3 for 5, 2 doubles) led the way in Billings' 8-3 win. ... Juan Rafael struck out 7 in 6 innings during the GCL Reds' 6-0 win over the Red Sox.

Not exactly minors but
Tom Shearn is getting dealt in Korea.
Five starts, 0-5 with a 8.34 ERA and a 2.03 WHIP. 12-14 K/BB. My guess is he’ll be demoted to the minors for a while.
Lehr isn’t doing much better. 0-2 5.12 ERA 1.71 WHIP. He’s working out of the bullpen now and gave up 4 ER in 1 2/3 innings on Sunday.

Shows you how much I know about international baseball.
I was unaware that Korea had minor leagues.
Hey Dusty...Are you sure you're OK? You might need an MRI.

Apparently that's the only thing he's missing
Well, that and the strike zone. But he’s hitting the bats pretty well.

Paul Daughetry had quite a long rambling soliliquy (?) on walk off homers and the Reds after last nite's game
Doc claims that one of the main reason that Reds are not competitive is that they rely on the ‘walk off’ (and HRs in general) too much. I had to turn off the radio. His moronic drivel was downright wrong in its intent and content. He claimed that the team’s recent road trip win and and last night’s win were just a blip and what the hell was Jr. doing on the bench anyway. He gave no credit whatsoever to the fact that Keppinger and Jerry Jr. were back from the DL, that Bronson apparantly had been working on his mechanics, that Harang pitched well enough to win…blah blah blah…how can a guy who knows so little about baseball ‘speak for the Reds community’? Plus he seems to really think that Baker is great manager but just needs right players. Hey, ‘Doc’ a great manager is the one who makes good things happen with the guys he has…give me the 1976 Reds and I’ll be a great manager.

I can't stand how constantly negative Doc is, either.
Leave it to him to turn a walk-off win into a problem. A team shows some heart with a 9th inning comeback, and Doc rips them for it. Instead of taking that same philosophy to look on the bright side when the team is doing negatively, he kicks them when they’re down. He’s the worst baseball writer in America.
And about your point relating to how a guy who knows so little about baseball ‘speak for the Reds community’? He speaks for the Reds community by default because he has a following that reads his columns and takes them as gospel. Look at the comments he gets when he posts on his blog. Instead of questioning his points where he’s wrong and misguided, I’d say around 75% of the comments there are praise about how he wrote another great column. It’s mind-numbing, really.

here, it is the same. it may be different negativity and echoing, but it’s negativity and echoing.

can’t just be happy with a win.

I'm really positive about this team.
With a few exceptions, I really like the players.
I just wish the manager didn’t bring my mood down so much.

Last time I checked, Dusty didn't bat himself
Dusty is not responsible for the Reds scoring only two runs or Harang giving up three.

Though he did
keep Votto from having a real AB in a crucial situation, and he pinch-hit LLM for Bruce for no good reason. Sure, these aren’t the only reasons the Reds only scored two runs, but they definitely didn’t help.

im sorry
a manager has relatively very few responsibilities. the most important of those is to make sure the best players are playing and at the most important times. In one fell swoop, he traded at-bats by Votto and Bruce for one at-bat by a right-handed Javier Valentin, replaced Adam Dunn with Corey Patterson ahead of two sacrifices and inserted Ken Griffey Jr, as a defensive replacement. There is just no intelligent thought put into his decisions, and I will not apologize for coming down on him for the first time this season.
What do you mean, "blank slate"?

How odd that such a great (former) player, a guy who seems reasonably intelligent, who has the rep of being 'one of the good guys' is such a horrible field manager.
Dusty probably should become a player manager. My guess is that even at 59 he knows how to lay down a bunt.
