If I were Dusty...
I would get someone up in the bullpen near the end of the 5th or at the beginning of the 6th.
This is the part of the game when Johnny Cueto starts giving up back to back home runs to people.

He has a habit of leaving pitchers in an inning longer than they need to be out there. He could give them a breather every once in awhile, instead of always leaving them in for 110+ pitches.

115 pitches
I will admit, on the baserunning side, Bailey did better in his start argueably against a better offensive team(11 vs. 8)
But Cueto can get the strikouts and Bailey can’t unless he throws 95mph consistantly.

If you give up 5 runs in 6.1 innings, that isn’t a quality start.

Agreed. But he still pitched pretty well for his first game of the season against one of the best offenses in baseball, with shaky defense and no offense of his own to help him out.

I was pulling so far for Brett Lawrie. I’m really psyched to have him; he’s been hitting with wood bats since he was 14, and recently hit eight bombs off professional pitching in the DSL, including five in one doubleheader. Jake Odorizzi was also an awesome pick, and Evan Frederickson throws 96 from the left side.

As an unbiased third party, would you say that if a pitcher goes over six innings and gives up five runs but less than three earned, it technically qualifies as a quality start?

Whether or not it’s a quality start is up for debate. Depends on the context of the errors, I suppose.
