Hamels is only on 61 pitches through 5
We need to get some guys on base soon if we’re going to get into the bullpen.
Bruce Bonser? Boone Bonser? Boot Bonser? BOOSE BONZER?
Homer with a great stop and a poor throw
typical.

Bailey pitching well but with no strike outs.
Does this mean he is throwing more fastballs?
Or has he just been lucky- the phillies have hit the ball hard but right at people?
Or have I spoken too soon and this inning is about to blow up?

He's been lucky
but he’s also gotten a lot of groundballs. His sinking fastball has been pretty good. His control has been promising; he’s stayed around the plate.

Bailey's problem is with k's
Not getting the extension on his fastball. Granted, the warmup hasn’t hit philly yet. Maybe if it was 90, he would have a bit more pop. He needs it, oh yeah, also a changeup.
Not a good game for the Reds. They appear completely out of it today. That Janish/Bruce disaster was the worst though it only cost a run.

my sister lives in west philly
and I have a few friends there too.
The idea of “bad parts of town” is always fascinating to me. On a certain level I am frustrated by the idea that poor and black= avoid at all costs. Over the Rhine, the West End and parts of Price Hill (among others) tend to get that rap in Cincy. I spent a lot of time in OTR growing up going to SCPA and never felt unsafe.
I realize living in a neighborhood is different than attending a school there. My recent experiences with some what violent crime have put some things in perspective about this too. But generally I still think if you are not involved in the drug trade and you tend to stay in well lit places with other people around, saftey will not be an issue. Obviously, if you look like you don’t belong someplace you will attract attention to yourself, but my experience with this is that people are more curious than hostile.

Agree with all of that
I went to elementary school in Over the Rhine. In a small way, I think that’s helped me overcome the typical biases against inner city neighborhoods.
The media doesn’t help things. It’s not that stories are sensationalized, but stories about gangs, murders, etc. are never balanced out by the good stories about those neighborhoods.
