A Visitor to Cincy... Recommendations Wanted
Greetings!
I'm a Wisconsinite who's coming to Cincinnati on business next week, and I'm hoping to catch a game (or three) at the Great American Ballpark. I was wondering if any of you fine folks might be willing to give me some recommendations on a visit to your fine ballpark. (Don't worry, I'll be rooting for the Reds.)
First, will it be a problem to get tickets on game day with Griffey's milestone homer approaching?
Second, where can I catch a good pregame meal?
Third, I'm writing ballpark reviews for my blog nohuddleoffense.blogspot.com . What are some of the fine elements your ballpark features that I don't want to miss?
For more on what I'm looking for, feel free to look here: Ballpark Tour

Griffey's homerun chase has not spiked attendence
a good place to find Reds tickets is ebay, alot of times you can get them for less than face value, also scalpers can be good.

Good to know
I was a little bit worried. I had heard tickets are easy to come by, but when 599 went out of the park, I got a bit nervous.

If you're there mid-week
Buy $7 bleacher seats at the gate and sit pretty much wherever you want.
The best entertainment venue in the area is Newport On The Levee (directory). Easily accessible by walking across the bridge by US Bank Arena, there’s plenty to do pre and post game and a wide variety of food options.
Get a Skyline Coney and some Montgomery Inn barbecue while you’re here. You can get them at the park but you’ll pay a premium.
At the park, take a tour of the Reds Museum attached to the park, check out the statues in front of the main gates, and stop in at the Machine Room.

agreed--museum, Newport
The really unique cool thing GABP has going for it is the Reds museum/Hall of Fame located next door. It’s the best team-specific HOF and admission is free with your day of game ticket. Maybe it’s not that great for a non-Reds fan but some of the exhibits are cool any way you slice em.
The scalpers are located across Pete Rose Way, the giant highway seperating the stadium from anything in the city. Thus the pre/post game scene is across the river. If you’re driving you can park at Newport and walk across the bridge or take a shuttle from one of the bars.
While you’re in town you could hit up the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center located more or less next door to the park. Check if it’s open beforehand because I think they’re cutting back hours. It’s not doing so well.
The Machine Room is located above left field.

My favorite bit about the HOF/Museum
Is the Rose garden. It should be in bloom right about now I would think.
For the OP, it’s a garden of roses planted in the patch of land where hit #4192 landed. Clever, eh? :)

There are a variety of colors. Look for the white one thats where the ball hit the ground first.

I always wondered
How they knew the EXACT spot. Were they that forward-thinking when it happened?

I believe that the officials brought in Cool god who was able identify the exact spot.
This was done by but His Ear to the earth and thereby pinpointing the point of impact.
This placement was also given credence by Hazel Frongbroth the original groundskeep at Riverfront stadium (see picture)

It's MY mower..
Not to be SMUG, but I just got one of those mowers.. Neuton battery powered mower. Damn, I need the chair to go with it now, that would be sweet! Kind of like the water bird to peck the “Vent gas – YES” button.

the hall of fame admission policies have changed..
with your game day ticket it will cost you ten dollars to get into the HOF. However, that does get you a season pass.

If you don't want to pay for Skyline in the park
There’s a restaurant on the corner of 4th and Main, a few blocks from the stadium. They’ll get you in and out pretty quickly and you’ll pay half as much.

Attendence did spike even after the Indians series
But it was probably due to Bruce. Still, if he’s (you’re) looking to purchase multiple tickets together, I’d try looking now and not wait until game day. Otherwise, single or even a pair of seats together shouldn’t be a problem. I mean, I haven’t been to Cincinnati in over a year, so I could be making this up.

Stuff to do
First off, Hey everyone, i’m a long-time lurker first time poster…couldn’t resist helping a traveler get a good impression of cincity…
anyway, at the park i’d recommend tickets in the 419-415 sections. they offer great views of the game and the river at a low cost. I try to always sit there. as for pre and post game stuff, Newport is where ya wanna be. They’ve got a Hoffbrau house i always try to hit, not many this side of munich and the food is great (also can’t argue with giant micro-brews) also, a ferry can take you from the Hooters in newport to the stadium, which is very cool. Lots of bars, eateries and nightlife in newport, and if you want a cab, in Covington down the road. The fountain square area also sports some good food, but a bit more upscale. For cheap transit try to find the T.A.N.K. buses (transit authority of northern kentucky) you’ll see signs on various corners and they’ll take ya around downtown , newport or covington for a buck a ride. Newport has a great aquarium if your into that kinda thing as well.
Once you’re in the park, you can’t miss the hof if you have time. since the reds were the first team its almost a history of baseball museum. I’ve been the the louisville slugger museum and it has nothen on the reds hall. The park itself is great for watching a game but the non-baseball offerings are sparce. You can take in sealed bottled water in a soft sided cooler if you want to save some cash but compared to other parks the prices are on par. Specialty beer, including hoffbrau and, if you can find it, the amazing American Red lager (or something like that…just look for the mr. redleg tap handle) is around 7.00 for a cup a bit smaller than domestics. I’ve been to alot of parks and LOVE the GABP for its views and open air design. I hope you do too. A bit of warning, Cinci can be a bit dicey at times…what with rogue Bengals running around and what not, try to stay out of dark alleys. You’ll be fine downtown and in Northern Kentucky however.

Welcome
I’ll second the Hofbrauhaus as an excellent postgame place to hang. Their beer is excellent. It’ll be a little crowded on the weekend, but if you go on a weeknight you won’t have any trouble.

Hi, Hello, and Welcome
I can’t believe I forgot Hofbrauhaus, good call. As far as downtown, stay south of 10th street or so and you’ll be just fine.

We'll make 'em if we have to
I sent another hockey invite last night in the event the Cyclones don’t win tonight. If needed, game seven is Saturday night at 7:30. If they win tonight and it’s over, we could theoretically hit Hofbrau and the Levee, catching the game at one or the other. Anyone interested, send me an email.

Not a local, but when my family goes down to games in Cincinnati, we park in Newport, Kentucky and walk across to the ballpark. Much cheaper parking, plus, you get that nice windswept hairstyle.

When you hit the Machine Room
(the restaurant that is in the left field corner)
might I humbly suggest that you try some of the Potato Skins that have the Montgomery Inn pulled pork in a lump in the center? I prefer them with a little side of the Anchor Bar sauce that you can request from the waiter and some sour cream.
Easily the most delicious food in the park.
And if you’ve never had a deep fried Oreo or Twinkie, you can get them at the Machine Room, too. I don’t know that I’d do it more than once, but they were certainly interesting.

that is a fun time. They have bodies playing basketball, throwing a baseball, throwing a fresibee, and conducting.
If you want a slighty different baseball experiance, check out the Florence Freedom.

If you have some extra time
you may (or not) find this rather Bizarre little attraction entertaining – The Creation Museum is located just 7 miles west of the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. Only in Cincinnati will you find sophistication, Fine Art, an excellent symphony orchestra, the Contemporary Ats Cents, the Museum Center, The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Stunning Architecture, Fun places to shop, National Historic Red Reporter Shrine, Bar and Grille, the Reds, Bengals etc.,ect., ect., plus Dusty baker
AND the The creation Museum.

I was not a fan of Riverfront v1.0
Although I really liked it with the gap taken out and natural grass. As far as a bad ballpark, I’d have to go with the Tropicana Dome or whatever it’s called. I’ve not been but I have yet to hear one person say it was even adequate.
And if you’re a jackass, don’t worry. I’ve been here for over a year now with little to no incident.
