by Man Mountain on Jun 5, 2008 3:12 AM EDT up reply actions

I suppose it should have felt exciting

but I thought it was an unattractive game: getting no hit for 6 and 2/3, the top of the order going 0 for 11, Dunn’s error in the eighth, the botched hit and run play, Cordero getting the greenlight to ground into a double play, the meta-ness of watching the umpire having to change out the balls so that Griffey could walk.

Even Myers no hit bid seemed kind of cheap considering he gave up 6 walks.

Voltron and Votto and Phillips had good games, and the score and many of the close plays should indicate and exciting game, but it seemed kind of meh to me.

Some muthafucka’s always trying to ice-skate uphill

by Man Mountain on Jun 5, 2008 3:45 AM EDT up reply actions

i found the lack of scoring on our part frustrating

but voltron keeping up with myers to me was amazing. He got no run support, but he got shit done. He lowered his ERA again and took control of the strikeout lead… he just continues to impress. Every time he does that it cements in my mind that he’s the real deal and will be for a long time for us.

Also, i think winning Game 3 of the series was enormous. If we lose, we lose the series and are on the verge of being swept. now we’ve matched them for runs in the series, and if we win tomorrow (today) we will split the phillies and outscore them on the road. that’s basically winning the series. it would be a really nice way to head to pro player.

What do you mean, "blank slate"?

by boobs on Jun 5, 2008 4:16 AM EDT up reply actions

Winning - I'm for it!

That doesn’t mean I have to think it was an attractive game, especially when letting go of my anxiety immediately after the game ended.

Some muthafucka’s always trying to ice-skate uphill

by Man Mountain on Jun 5, 2008 4:36 AM EDT up reply actions

Agreed

I’m really glad I went last night. First and foremost, watching Voltron mow down a good lineup was very satisfying. It was tough to see movement from where I was sitting but you could sure tell when someone was fooled on a changeup. And despite the eyesores like Dunn’s bobble and Hairston’s error, there were some pretty ones too – BP’s over-the-shoulder grab drew applause and Votto’s catch in foul territory was entertaining. Dusty also used the bullpen correctly, letting Bray go after the tough lefties and then bringing in Cordero to face Burrell. I was pleasantly surprised, expecting Dusty to only use Cordero to start the 9th.

Also, they showed Griffey and Edwin on the kiss cam, and everyone got a hearty laugh when they hugged.

by ken on Jun 5, 2008 8:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Only hugged?

A-Rod kissed Andy Phillips when they were put on the Rangers’ kiss cam.

Then said it was the best kiss he’d had in a long time. (I wonder how his wife felt about that…)

Andy said it was something he could tell his grandkids about. (I dunno, Andy. In Alabama?)

btw

They should get off their high horse. That site summarizes the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy with a screen capture from every couple seconds. That can’t be legal.

by Red Menace on Jun 4, 2008 10:31 PM EDT up reply actions

Probably not

But I suspect it’s not their “high horse.” It’s that they can’t afford to pay the bandwidth charges.

I have occasionally had my graphics “borrowed” via hot-linking. Ordinarily, I don’t mind, but sometimes, if they are large and/or hot-linked at a high-traffic site, I have to block it. If I don’t, either I have to pay hundreds of dollars in extra bandwidth charges, or my site is shut down for the rest of the month. (“I’m sorry, this site has exceeded its bandwidth limitations…”)

To add insult to injury, the last time it happened, the site that was stealing my animation was a Red Sox blog. It was posted at the top of an old game thread that hadn’t scrolled off the front page yet, so even though nobody was looking at it any more, it was loaded every time someone visited the front page.

Another time, someone was hot-linking a gigantic photo in their sig, and posting at a high-traffic rock music board. Not only was my bandwidth getting killed, I’m sure the people at the other board just loved loading that humongous image every time the kid posted a message.

Let me rephrase . . .

Lose and I am Sad. Win and I am happy. Unless they are going to lose again in the future, in which case I’m sad. Simple as that.

Let me re-rephrase.

Lose and I am Sad. Win and I am happy. Unless I think that they’re going to lose again in the near future, because I am such a pessimist that I can’t even fathom the thought of the Reds beating the Phillies on Thursday afternoon, in which case I’m sad. Simple as that.

Just so you all know where I stand in the hamilton-volquez deal

pitching right now for the Rangers: The man we called “El”. Or maybe just Lizard.

Either way, it could’ve been us on the frowning side of an 11-6 scoreboard…I’d rather have 2-0

...because there's already someone posing as Jacob Brumfield

by chandrathan on Jun 4, 2008 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

As much as I like Volquez

I’m still on the Hamilton side. I’m dreadfully worried about losing Griffey and Dunn. With them gone, Baker will be able to push around everyone. And Patterson will be back because. . . “he’s our best option.” At least we had pitching in the pipeling. Outfield looks bleak with Bruce all by his linesome.

But, I’ll take it.

by Brian B on Jun 4, 2008 10:24 PM EDT up reply actions

we've got freel to take the place of griffey

he’ll be the outfielder that misses most of the season due to injury

now we’re only one outfielder away.

Too high of an OBP for Dusty.

That’s too many base-clogging walks.

Better to have Corey Patterson, and his Zen sub-.240 OBP. Keeps the bases cleaner that way.

Dusty's head needs an MRI. Beeeeeeeepppp...

by Paul Householder on Jun 4, 2008 10:29 PM EDT up reply actions

I feel confident in saying that Drew Stubbs would not manage a .383 OBP in the majors right now

but it’s probably not a bad idea to move him up to Chattanooga just to, you know, find out if he can get close to the majors some time.

Wow. Sox-Royals

Royals tied it up in the ninth. Brian Anderson was just thrown out at third trying to stretch his double into a triple with 1 out in the 11th. Good outfield cover by the Royals after Teahan went for the dive and allowed the ball to roll to the wall.

Classy Cardinals Reprise!

I hope to construct a music video montage of classy St. Louis Cardinal moments, perhaps setting it to Mariah Carey's "Hero."

Please take a moment to find the classiest incidents in recent Cardinal history, and link to an article covering the event, or video or pictures if you can find them. And if you just have a ridiculous photo of a recent Cardinal, please post a link here to the highest resolution image you can find.

I think we can all learn from such a classy organization. Let's give it a try.
