The reason Herr became expendable...
...is because the Yankees released Morgan Ensberg, and Cleveland picked him up. Herr hasn’t played since.

Can he play SS?
You know there are many fringe minor leaguers out there looking for a chance with the Reds, despite the curse.

Fogg
There’s no chance he comes back, right? Unless someone gets hurt? Would they think to replace Arroyo with Fogg?

If they were planning to keep him in Louisville, they would not have said ML Rehab, so he may replace someone.

or be traded
He’s on a rehab because he was on the DL. They can’t just keep in him the minors because of his contract/service time.

as opposed to his relative value?
I’m not sure it matters. But if you think back to 2000, I believe the Reds made a Pennant run by trading for . . . Brian Moehler. So it would appear EVERYBODY has value.

actually to fact check you Brian B
The Reds made the Moehler deal in 2002, they also added Ryan Dempster and Shawn Estes to sure up the rotation. In 2000 when it was clear they were dropping out of contention they traded Denny Neagle to the Yankees.

they'll probably just hide him in the bullpen
like they did the last time until they can figure out what to do with him. he may be bad, but he’s been treated pretty awfully by the reds. i feel sorry for him, in a way. at least until he gives up six runs in three innings.
