Around SBN: Falcons and Chargers Recap: The Win Is The Thing Bar-right-arrows

Farmers only: More Neftali

Neftali Soto
Soto

Chris Dickerson's walk-off single gave Louisville the 3-2 win. Danny Herrera escaped from Tyler Pelland's jam in the 7th. ...

Danny Dorn went 2 for 5 with a homer in Chattanooga's 10-1 win. Sam Lecure struck out 4 and allowed just 2 hits in 6 innings. ...

Keltavious Jones homered in Dayton's 8-2 loss. Brandon Waring was 2 for 3, and Devin Mesoraco had a hit. ...

Neftali Soto was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles in Billings' 6-5 loss. First baseman Matt Stiffler went 1 for 4, but more importantly, Matt Stiffler blah blah blah.

Sarasota rained out, and the DSL and GCL teams had the day off.

Stephen A. Douglas was a great debater, but Abraham Lincoln was the Great Emancipator.

he's playing 3B this season

that’s where he’s expected to play if he makes it to the big leagues.

actually

i read that he’s more likely to be a corner outfielder.

What do you mean, "blank slate"?

Soto

2nd year in a rookie league and now 19 so already on the verge of being too old for his league. If he’s going to be a prospect, he needs to be doing this in Dayton.

by DisplacedFan on Jun 23, 2008 1:46 PM EDT   0 recs

GCL and Fronteir leagues are on two different levels...

Rookie – and Rookie +, really. So I wouldn’t say he needs to be moved up post-haste.

Soon would be nice, though.

...because there's already someone posing as Jacob Brumfield

Pioneer League

is mostly full of college players. Soto is well on the young side of the spectrum for the league he is in.

There are only 4 players under 20 on the Billings roster

and the Pioneer league average age is 20.7. Given that he’ll be 19 for the whole season, I don’t think he’s on the verge of being too old for his level. If he was moved up now, he’d be 2 years younger than the average age for the Midwest League.

Mark Sheldon

says he’s gotten more mail about Lehr and Shearn going to Korea than any other subject.

Also some interesting stuff about what’s wrong with Harang, and strange nicknames for Jay Bruce. (“Clairol”?)

Well looky here

The Reds are in a bidding war for another Dominican dandy

Inoa, 16, at 6 feet 7 and 210 pounds, is a right-hander with a repertoire consisting of a 93-mph fastball, a changeup and a curveball. .

Yes please.

about time to send Dorn to AAA?

he has an OPS of .842. He probably isn’t distin for stardom, but he will look better in the outfield than Patterson next season.
