John Flaherty

(who is probably my favorite YES broadcaster aside from He Who Shall Not Be Named) had some interesting points about Patterson. He said he stands so far away from the plate he can’t cover the far half. And the pitchers know this, from the scouting reports. So they just throw strikes over the outside half of the plate. He wondered why Patterson doesn’t move closer to the plate.

All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?

by BubbaFan on Jun 20, 2008 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think so

They might rush him. But they didn’t think he was ready. His hitting is fine. It’s playing SS they’re worried about. They aren’t sure his knee is up to it. They’d have called him up a week ago if Hairston hadn’t been injured. They were going to play Kepp at 3B, a less demanding position.

In Louisville, Kepp is not playing SS very often. I think he was at SS only once this week. He’s been DHing every other game, and playing 3B instead of SS sometimes. Probably to ease him into it.

They could call him up, but if they do, it will be a desperation move.
