Bring back the "Mayor"
People will argue that bringing him back will serve no real purpose. They will argue that he is past his prime. But in reality what is there to lose. If rumors are true and Votto is destined for a corner outfield slot then pull the trigger for Casey, it wouldn't cost much. I still resent Dan O for getting Dave Williams of all people for Casey. He undoubtedly would love to come home, and I for one would enjoy seeing him in a Reds uniform again. Not for the pennant, not for the World Series, just for the fans, just for him. The Reds stand no chance of winning, and I have no further reason to watch on a regular basis. Don't get me wrong, I like to watch Volquez, Bruce, Votto, Cueto but not on a regular basis especially if they are destined to lose. If Casey was to come back, it would at least give me a reason to watch, and to enjoy the team again.

Casey back..
But don’t the Reds already hit into enough double plays already.
Beware the toothpick knows.

I would be willing to bet
That Casey is pretty happy being on the Red Sox and liking his chances to take home a ring this season. If you love Casey so much, why wouldn’t you let him have that chance? Let’s think about what’s best for Sean.

Nah.
I think he’d rather come back here and get taken out regularly in the 7th inning “for defensive purposes.”
That being said, it would be great to have him back, although I wonder where he’d play. We already have too many 1B/OF/DH types, and they don’t all play 1B or OF, and the NL does not have the DH.
Hey Dusty...Are you sure you're OK? You might need an MRI.

remember when we had the best offense in baseball?
That wasn’t all that bad. We even could tolerate a crappy rotation if the bullpen were halfway decent.

the bullpen was decent in 2003
Williamson, Mercker, White, Sullivan, and Heridia had decent seasons. It still failed.

Remember how we got Casey?
March 30, 1998: The Reds’ Dave Burba, scheduled to be Opening Day starter the next Day, is given a parade in his hometown in Ohio. That afternoon he is traded to Cleveland for Casey.
The Reds GM says to the press, “Years from now Reds fans will remember this day the way they remember the day we signed Joe Morgan.”
Where have you gone, Johnny Vander Meer?

No to Votto in the outfield
Saw Votto play some outfield in AAA and it was a wild experience. Can Casey play SS?

Don't need no mo big slow fat VP white guys.
Casey has no role in the unfolding drama that is the RED’S future. He’s fortunate to be playing w/the Sox. Hell I love the guy, he’s on myfantasy team. But his ability to bring anything relevant to this club is also a fantasy.

I love Casey as much as anybody
but this post makes absolutely no sense. Why would Casey want to leave one of the favorites for the world series to come to a team that is about to lose a large portion of their offense? A team that isn’t that good to start with. I’d love to see Casey win a world series ring with Boston this year!
The only way I want Casey to return to Cincinnati is if he is replacing Jeff Brantley.

You are an idiot, zip your big mouth, nobody wants him back and the only reason they do is dumb. What did he ever do for the Reds, helped them get to a playoff play in game they lost to the Mets, we actually have a chance of winning making a dumb mistake like that is useless, keep him in Beantown, ill send the postcard and Scott Hatteberg will deliver it…. get use to the Canadian bra, VOTTO!

NEIL was much more verbose, and his grammar, usage and vocabulary were better.

we complain about leadership, we complain about quality at bats... and everything else
Players rally behind leadership, whether spoken, on the field, off the field. Free agents want to hear positive things from veterans of the team. Who else do the Reds or have the Reds counted on to do these things. Casey is a leader, he loves Cincinnati and is a class act. He may not be what he once was, but he still brings to the table the aspects of the game, many Reds don’t currently have.
