Game 58: Reds at Phillies

I know it's only June, but this feels like a very important road trip. It's not the west coast, so it seems feasible that the Reds could have a good trip. Then again, they are playing the top two teams in the NL East on the trip, so it definitely won't be easy. It's important though that they keep moving in the right direction. I think the bear minimum measure for success will be a 4-4 and trip. Splitting against those two teams will be a step in the right direction. Then again, 8-2 would be really nice.
Let's see #600 tonight so we can move our minds on to the rest of the season! Whaddya say?

Just wishing this series was on a weekend
I could go up to Philly and watch the games with ken.
Speaking of, apparently the Saturday game against the Yankees on June 14 is sold out. Anyone know how easy/inexpensive it is to buy scalped tickets to Yankee Stadium? BubbaFan?
It's sold out?
Wow, there were lots of tickets a couple of days ago.
It’s easy to buy scalped tickets, but not necessarily cheap. However, if the Yankees continue sucking, it maybe possible to get tickets cheap or even free.
There’s always StubHub.

Me, too
One last time, while I can.
I’m thinking of taking the $12 tour. I wanted to go in April, but the day I was in the city, the Yankee Stadium tour was sold out.

So two right-handers can go 1 & 2 and Bruce and Griffey can bat 3 & 4, but we can’t get Dunn and Bruce together?
C’mon, fistbands, let’s light this candle.

you got me MLB, I could totally drive to Philadelphia if I weren’t such a couch potato.

Heh?
Last time I checked, if you drew a line between the center of North Carolina and Philadelphia, you would probably intersect the market areas for both Washington and Baltimore…

It Citizens Bank is almost equal with GABP
in terms of park factor when talking about home runs
GABP 1.448
Citzens 1.189
The higher than 1, it favors the hitter, below 1 favors the pitcher
I think he has too much rest.
He should pitch every four days.

Why is Howard considered better than Dunn?
The media anyway
pete rose to tony perez "how can anyone as slow as you pull a muscle?"
also they were competitive teams
Howard’s MVP year numbers are better than anything Dunn’s ever put up in a single season: .313/.425/1.084 167 OPS+

was that a hit and run
and did Dunn swing at a strike?
Some muthafucka’s always trying to ice-skate uphill
good deal
though Baker admitted to calling a hit and run on a 3-2 count earlier in the season.
Some muthafucka’s always trying to ice-skate uphill
Well, most of the Reds are playing into Kendrick's
cunning little plan of marching up and down the square, er, swinging early in the count.

But Google Image search also turned up some pictures of Sarah Palin, Alaska’s new governor. They’re doing something right in Alaska.

Supreme Court refuses to consider fantasy baseball case
WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday let a fantasy sports league operator continue using baseball statistics and players’ names without paying licensing fees, in a closely watched case at the heart of the $1.5 billion fantasy sports industry. With no comment or recorded vote, the justices refused to intervene in a dispute between a St. Louis company and Major League Baseball. The court’s action leaves intact a 2007 U.S. appeals court decision that said the First Amendment supersedes state “rights of publicity” law that normally lets sports figures and celebrities control how their names and identities are used.

As long as we're not hitting any solo shots
we should be good.

Man, this offense will terrorize Reds pitching
Harang better be out of his slump and Volquez better not go into one. Bailey? Forget about it. He will be shelled.

I haven't been around since Thursday . . .
But have we starting talking yet about whether this is the best start to a career by ANY player EVER?
Did Dusty really say that?
Bonds had 11 hits in his first 11 games, hitting .275 .341 .400 over that period.
he said he hadn't seen a start like that since BB
Bobby Bonds did hit a grand slam in his first game.

I hate Orel Hershiser
I’m watching the ESPN game, and Orel just used my absolute least favorite “old-school” baseball adage ever. And that’s saying something.
“Speed never slumps.”
Mr. Hershiser, I’d like to introduce you to Mr. Patterson.
"Karma - there it was. The meaning of life, straight from Carson Daly's lips to my morphine-laced ears." -Earl Hickey
Its the greatest debut of any player
with two first names, beating out george brett and of course david ross
he has a respectable career line agains the Reds .258/.331/.500
nothing spectacular

I repeat
Arroyo and shitty pitching, together again. What the hell is this.
Jeff, we hardly knew ye...
Arroyo finally faces a good offense
and gets rocked. The faster he is gone, the better. His arm makes Bailey’s look like a cannon.
Not sure why your comparing their velocities
I may call him Speedwagon, but Arroyo has never been known for his fastball. He’s a breaking ball pitcher and always has been.
Hold on while he searches Google for a clever response
Some muthafucka’s always trying to ice-skate uphill
to be fair
Bailey’s new haircut does make Arroyo look like a hippie…I got nuthin.
I don't need to
I just follow your lead on how. Thanks
I don't get it.
No. Seriously. I don’t get it.
"Karma - there it was. The meaning of life, straight from Carson Daly's lips to my morphine-laced ears." -Earl Hickey
That is to bad
Maybe you will get it soon
Steve Phillips is an idiot
He’s arguing that the Yankees converting Joba Chamberlain to the rotation hurts them because he only pitches once every 5 days.
Every time I see that man speak, I am more and more amazed that somebody let him run a professional baseball team. I wouldn’t trust him to manage my fantasy team while I was on vacation for a few days.
"Karma - there it was. The meaning of life, straight from Carson Daly's lips to my morphine-laced ears." -Earl Hickey
Wasnt he tacitly involved in some kind of lawsuit as well?
I am not sure on this
For all the shit given to Morgan, Kruk, Hersh
and rightly so, Phillips is still the guy who shocks me the most.

Phillips explaining the draft
“They look at what kind of player they are now, then they close their eyes and imagine what kind of player they can be. Then they evaluate. They use a scale between 2 and 8, 5 is average.”
Thanks.

over/under
I’m not sure but I think this web site, is saying that the over/under for this game for Hits/Runs/Errors is 30.5. I think the over is looking good. Can someone please check my work, I don’t bet.
If you're not having fun, stop participating.
Reds not in the class of the Phillies
Mis-match is evident.
Well...
One team is leading its division. And one team is sub-.500. One team is playing at home, and one is playing away.
I’m really not sure what your point is.
Which is depressing
Another bad Reds team
I think Arroyo needs an MRI.

Holy shit.
If you’re Gameday-ing, you should turn to ESPN. They asked Phillips questions about the draft the entire inning, and they’re going to talk more about it when they come back. His answers are un-fucking-believably stupid. I cannot imagine listening to this guy talk for half an hour and thinking “That’s my guy. That’s the guy who’s going to bring us a winner.”

Yeesh. If he gives up runs here, the Cinci fanbase is going to come down on him and he absolutely does not need that.
