Game 73: Reds vs. Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Cincinnati Reds

Next Game

Los Angeles Dodgers
@ Cincinnati Reds

Wednesday, Jun 18, 2008, 7:10 PM EDT
Great American Ball Park

Derek Lowe vs Bronson Arroyo

Partly cloudy. Winds blowing out to right field at 15-20 m.p.h. Game Time temperature: Around 70.

Complete Coverage >

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Derek Lowe 4-6 4.03 1.30 61 24

W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Bronson Arroyo 4-5 5.31 1.62 75 31

The Reds have scored 16 runs in 7 games so far on this home stand.  That has to change.

Arroyo looked good in his last outing and he has a 3.04 ERA over his last 8 starts.  He may only be a 6 inning pitcher at this point (remember, he pulled himself out of his last start after 6 IP), but if those 6 innings can keep the Reds in the game that might be enough.

Outside of Bailey's two starts and Cueto's 8 walk fiasco a week ago, the starting pitching has been good on the homestand.  Hopefully Arroyo can keep it going.

I just read the 2003 Frank Darabont script for the Indiana Jones sequel

I haven’t seen the actual one, so I don’t know how it compares, but I liked the script pretty well. There wasn’t any Shia LaBoof character, which was fine. There was a nice moment with a drunk Indy in a museum. Is that in the new movie?

Speaking of bad movies...

I accidentally ended up seeing one of the worst movies ever last night, 88 Minutes.

The reviews are pretty hilarious, though. Like, say:

Given that 88 Minutes actually runs 108 minutes, it’s tempting to make the joke that the movie is 20 minutes too long. In actuality, it’s 108 minutes too long.
Or:
If you like your women half-naked, strung upside-down from pulleys, and sliced like deli meat, this is the movie for you. Whether the victims are more tortured than the plot is a serious question.

by Gray on Jun 18, 2008 5:23 PM EDT   0 recs

HALF Naked?

I’m not interested.

When it comes to Phil Mickelson...Marty's not a fan.

by chandrathan on Jun 18, 2008 5:24 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Yeah, the closest to decent nudity

was the baffling shot in an early scene of a woman brushing her teeth while standing with one leg pointed toward the ceiling.

by Gray on Jun 18, 2008 5:26 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

i like al pacino

but i wasn’t sure that movie would be any good…

how did you accidentally watch it?

When it comes to Phil Mickelson...Marty's not a fan.

by chandrathan on Jun 18, 2008 5:27 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I had assented to SaTC

but it was sold out, plus that theatre was packed, so we went to another, where I hadn’t scoped out the options.

Others thought it was the serial killer drama with Al Pacino and Robert De Niro which is apparently coming out in a couple of months…and which must have at least looked like it kind of made sense in the trailer.

This one was totally absurd from the start. As in, Pacino gets a call from someone telling him he has 88 minutes to live…so he doesn’t call anybody useful, and goes about his normal day. WTF?

by Gray on Jun 18, 2008 5:29 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

"For 88 minutes, you KILL yourself for the guy NEXT to you!"

“You will SACRIFICE yourself for that extra inch! The INCHES we NEED are ALL AROUND US! That’s football, guys. That’s life.”

by Brendanukkah on Jun 18, 2008 5:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

does he die?

When it comes to Phil Mickelson...Marty's not a fan.

by chandrathan on Jun 18, 2008 5:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Of course not.

So it’s just 88 minutes of waiting to see how the person trying to kill him will die.

by Gray on Jun 18, 2008 5:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

since he didn't die, maybe he took the correct course of action!

When it comes to Phil Mickelson...Marty's not a fan.

by chandrathan on Jun 18, 2008 5:35 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

The correct course of action

would clearly not have involved making this movie.

Iron Man was awesome!

Mostly because of Robert Downey, Jr., but I had a great time watching it. Haven’t seen Hulk yet, but I don’t really have any desire to either. I’ve read mostly decent reviews though.

Hopper is back...

according to the Fay:

Prior to tonight’s game, the Reds returned from a rehabilitation assignment and reinstated from the 15-day disabled list OF Norris Hopper and optioned to Class AAA Louisville RHP Homer Bailey.
And of course, not only does Patterson remains, but he continues to start,

by Gray on Jun 18, 2008 6:23 PM EDT   0 recs

I'm a little late to the party, but...

where’d you get the ‘03 script, Brendan?
I’m a big indy fan, but didn’t see this last one until Father’s Day. I thought it was decent, but was filmed in a way that reminded me of Sin City with the graphic novelly photographic production.

Still a fun movie thoguh. Just no Last Crusade.

I never thought I'd say this.

WELCOME BACK NORRIS HOPPER. I MISSED YOU.

by Geki on Jun 18, 2008 6:27 PM EDT   0 recs

Goodness gracious...

Never thought you’d say that either. I think it would be one of the few things on which you, Zach and shortstop would agree.

Nothing like an overdose of something truly horrific like Corey Patterson to make you appreciate the mediocre things in life.

Hey Dusty...Are you sure you're OK? You might need an MRI.

by Paul Householder on Jun 18, 2008 6:32 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

oh, and since nobody's posted the lineup here yet...

Trent gives us this one:

Joey Votto 1b
Jolbert Cabrera ss
Jay Bruce rf
Brandon Phillips 2b
Adam Dunn lf
Edwin Encarnacion 3b
Corey Patterson cf
David Ross c
Bronson Arroyo p

Fay for some reason has Dunn and Phillips switched, but I suspect this one is right, since it involves moving fewer people from Dusty’s default lineup.

by Gray on Jun 18, 2008 6:31 PM EDT   0 recs

Hey! How come the centerfielder isn't leading off?

Does not compute…

by Paul Householder on Jun 18, 2008 6:33 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

Not sure how I feel about Votto leading off, but...

Anyone is better than Patterson.

Did we trade Griffey to Rays for Longoria and Shields yet?

by D-Rock on Jun 18, 2008 6:34 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

C says

he’s still sick.

He said he has “flu-like symptoms” and has trouble focusing on things far away, and thinks that may be dehydration. Baker said he doesn’t expect Griffey to play today or tomorrow. When asked if he could still pinch hit, Griffey said: “Hopefully not—hopefully we’ll have a enough runs that I don’t have to.”

Oh, and he says Dusty plans to start Hopper tomorrow, presumably batting leadoff:

Hopper helps immediately for the team’s bench and will likely start tomorrow leading off against lefty Eric Stults. “It gives me versatility in the outfield I didn’t have last night," Baker said. "We’ve got a left-hander tomorrow and I don’t think Junior’s going to be available tomorrow either."

by Gray on Jun 18, 2008 6:38 PM EDT to parent up   0 recs

I like how this counts as "good lineup"

rookie
guy who hasn’t played in the bigs since 04
rookie

and THEN heart of the lineup.

but yeah, I’ll take it. I’m officially happy when Dusty doesn’t absolutely shit the bed.

It's a "good lineup" because we all know it could be worse.
