Welcome to the big club, Jolbert
And holy crap, Dunn batting after Griffey in the cleanup slot! That’s just crazy enough to work!
by Brendanukkah on Jun 11, 2008 5:04 PM EDT up reply actions
The sad part about that
is that we all know that the only reason why Dunn’s batting 4th is because BP’s taking the night off, and that as soon as BP’s back, he’s batting 4th.

Shit!
I had a good answer to this question, and then I forgot what I was going to say!
Oh! I think I just wanted to mention that it’s been a surprising pleasure that Bill Simmons is writing some of his strongest articles in years over the past two weeks. For awhile, he was getting really pissy with espn.com, and never posting new material. But they apparently buried the hatchet in time for the NBA Finals, and he’s been on a hot streak that’s not been seen for a long, long time. A simple pleasure, but a real one.

Cueto is going to give up runs.........
The Cards have a history of killing young righties(we have already seen them dispatch the failing Bailey with ease). They already have creamed Cueto’s clock once already as well.
With Pujols down, it will help. But he will give up hits at a alarming rate at times.
you spelled your name wrong
cueto will win for sure!
I'm here to tell the truth
Cueto is going to be great tonight!

Lets see about Pole:
1.Arroyo has regressed since he has been here
2.Bailey started his mechanical change when Pole came(if you read Redszone at least) and has floundered since then
3.Harang has started to look ragged
4.Cueto came up looking like a real find now has fallen apart at the seams.
Volquez seems to be the only guy that has progressed, but how much of that is still leftover from his Texas development?
The fact is, Jocketty values a good pitching coach. Pole has a very shaky rep outside a quick stint in Cleveland. I gotta think he is close being gone.
i hope so

A hands off pitching coach
IE: Don’t try and force a guy like Bailey to shorten his delivery when he was doing fine with the one he had. It was how he got the extension, explosion and velocity of his fastball.

Let's see about pole
1. Not really
2. He is young dummy
3. Yes since no one else has ever had a bad year with no run support
4. see #2
Volquez was 2-9 as a starter for Texas so I’m glad he brought all of that with him.

Yeah, I'm not seeing why that's so critical
Speaking of that movie, I’ve always liked Zooey Deschanel for her girl-next-door qualities (anyone see the Wizard of Oz thing on SciFi earlier this year?). So I was disappointed when my sister-in-law, who’s a chef, told me that Zooey came into her restaurant with a small scale and weighed her entree (fish I believe), eating only a small portion of the meal. Not that she’s an indie queen but I thought she was insulated from that crap. Bah.
That sucks
there should be magazine articles out there making fun of celebrities for shit like that. Maybe that would get them to be more normal.

Doesn't make a really huge difference
But supposedly, your worst hitter should bat 8th in the ideal lineup. The ninth hitter is supposed to be leadoff type guy.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Kinda weird
that TLR stopped doing that after ‘98, then picked it up again only after Milwaukee said they’d give it a try.

Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds
First I was pissed that I was late and missed part of the game, and now
I am pissed that I have caught any of it. Johnny Cueto is breaking my heart! That many walks ….unreal.
the team just looks like they are clueless in this series
and the Cardinals are a very confident team right now.
Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds
I think it is time to really embrace the Youth Movement, do the right thing and trade Griffey to a contender
and focus on signing or trading Dunn. Management cannot really think they are in it to win it this year, which is ok, but taking care of Dunn, one way or another, must become new priority.
I tend to alternate between mindsets concerning the Reds...one very optimistic, and one that gets depressed from continued losing
Guess which one I’m in now
I hear you and I agree.
I think that is why we should just expect the mercurial team that corresponds with a team full of young players.
Maybe I am too optimistic but I am excited about the future of this team, but the future is not now, I do not think. I hope I am wrong.
un freakin real

boring
I’ve been rereading this classic thread—the guilty pleasures/movies/weird tangents discusison. Apparently it’s the first time Alan alerted us to Alaska’s hot Governess.

I was listening to Heavy Metal Drummer by Wilco on the way back from Ann Arbor this evening and that thread popped into my head. I hadn’t thought about it for a long time – probably since it happened. That’s like some voodoo shit going on right there.

Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds
I gave her a rid home, if you know what I mean
(what Brendan means is that he gave her a ride to her Metro stop, where her car was parked. Brendan goes home an actionless man. Still better than following a 10-0 shellacking on the internet. I fucking hate when Johnnypronto, off base though he may be, gets nominally proven right.)

I found out she likes soccer though
Fuck, am I ever terrible at “sealing the deal.”

Maybe the worst game of the season
Fire Dusty.

"Was it for the Reds organization or all of baseball?" Bruce said.
can we trade managers with the cubs,
for situations like this game? Would have loved to see a Pinella blow up during a 10 run loss, give us something to get excited about

Seriously!
The Cubs blew a game against the Reds alst year, and Pinella ate the reporters alive after the game. The Cubs then went on a tear and never looked back. You think Baker would even think about trying to light a fire under the team? He’s in his office laughing at the fact he got a 3 year deal!
I thought last night was the most embarrassing game of the season
But tonight’s takes the cake. Just wow. Maybe the Reds should call up Ricky Henderson or Bonds or some other sideshow and see if they want to play ball.

BTW
Adam Dunn’s streak for consecutive games while getting on base at least once ended tonight at 26. It was the longest such streak for the Reds this season and the longest since 2005/2006 when Ryan Freel went 33 straight games across two seasons.

What is galling to me about the last two nights
is that, looking at the lineups, I don’t think I’d trade anyone in the Reds lineup for their counterpart on the Cardinals, now that Pooholes is gone.
And we still got absolutely destroyed.

They play like it every night.

Whoever puts up the next game thread
I say it is high time to put that little bastard baby under the clothes basket again.
Maybe someone with Photoshop could put Corey Patterson under there….

Seconded.
The baby goes back under the basket tonight.

I think it's a bit premature
They’ve only lost 2 in a row. And if it weren’t for Cody F’ing Ross, they’d be 3-3 in their last 6. It’s not quite on the level of baby torture yet, is it?
"Hard being everybody’s hero, I suppose." - Buck O'Neil on Willie Mays
Reasons why the baby goes back in the basket:
- The team is 5 games under .500
- The team is 11 1/2 games back in the division
- The team has been outscored 17-2 the last 2 games, where they faced a guy making his first ML start and Braden f’ing Looper
- The starters have gone 6 innings or less in the last 6 games (and a few of those were stretching it past 100 pitches)
- They are about to get swept at home by a division rival, without their best player
I’m not saying that it’s time to blow it up, or that this is a must-win game by any means, but there’s gotta be some sort of urgency there. Getting swept at home with the chance to fall 12 1/2 back does not bode well for their playoff chances. If the baby doesn’t go in the basket tonight, it sure as hell goes tomorrow night.

Pujols and Soriano are both out for an extended period of time
But I honestly don’t see us making up too much ground.
