Game 36 Thread: Reds at Mets
Cincinnati Reds at New York Mets, May 9, 2008 7:10 PM EDT

Pelfrey has pitched more than 5.1 innings in just one start this year and he's given up 5 runs in each of his last two starts. The big thing that sticks out about him is that he has 3 more walks than strikeouts so far. Also, he's given up 12.5 hits per nine innings this year. Hopefully the Reds have the patience to wait for their pitch, because it looks like Pelfrey will give it to them.
Not that Belisle is much better, but at least he's avoided giving up a bunch of walks this year. Unfortunately, he's been even more hittable than Pelfrey, surrendering over 15 hits per nine innings this season. Suffice to say, this could turn into a barn burner very easily tonight.
And don't forget, andromache is on Jeopardy tonight! Check local listings.

Look at Pelfrey's walk rate!
Dusty, please take a break from your first pitch swinging, aggressive philosophy tonight.

I’m gonna try to put in an hour at my bullshit Smithsonian gig, then maybe Iron Man tonight. I’ve got Jeopardy ready to record on my DVR.

I feel good that no one on this blog went to the game
After I’d been hyping up the Screaming Eagles tailgate, when I got there it was weak sauce. No food (although I guess there traditionally isn’t for weekday games), some of the wateriest beer I’ve had in ages, and after only one cup, the keg was cashed. Super lame.
The game itself was pretty terrible too. United lost to the Fire, 2-0. The most hated man in soccer, Chautolmec (sp?) Blanco scored. United has had a terrible season so far. They are kind of like the Tigers. They had the best record in the league last year, brought in a bunch of (seemingly) skilled new players, and looked set to dominate. But their defense has fallen apart, last year’s striker and league MVP has looked terrible and can’t score at all, and the heart and soul of the team, midfielder Ben Olsen, has been out all year with ankle injuries.
Still, it’s always a great experience watching the game in the supporter’s section. Everyone’s standing on their seats, screaming and singing, streamers and flags are flying everywhere. And at halftime, I carried a strange man around on my shoulders in the mosh pit.
I woke up a little hungover today, and it was raining, and my hoodie still smells like cheap beer, so getting to work was a bit of a chore, but to answer your question, yes, I’m recovered.

At Ironman, make sure to
stay until after the credits for a scene at the end. I unforunately missed it as I didn’t know it was there when I went.
Pretty good movie too….not up to the level of Batman Begins, but still solid.

It does seem that they specualte as wildly and freely as bloggers in that area.
Twice I think I’ve heard Marty say he “expects to see” Daryl Thompson in Cincinnati this year.
I’m not saying it can’t happen but with EV and JC pitching well and HB clearly “ahead” of Thompson,I don’t know how one could “expect” to see him up this year.

Make-up doubleheader
From Hal’s blog,
So now they play a day-night doubleheader Saturday, the first game at 1:10 and the second game at 7:30.
For those scoring at home, will that be two game threads?
If you're not having fun, stop participating.

yes
i have a scorebook, actually i have a couple, with records of most of the professional games I have atteneded going back until 2004. My scorebook includes Greg Maddux’s 300th win, Homer Bailey’s debut, other MLB games, AAA, single A, and Frontier League games. Sometimes I score at home but very very rarely.

Well, at least they're rested
Today would be a great day for Arroyo to rediscover his effectiveness. When he’s pitching well, he can go late in games. Cueto and Volquez, great as they are, haven’t quite demonstrated that they can pitch into the later innings. Pretty much Harang and potentially Arroyo are still our only horses.
