Notes from the Enquirer
Junior tells USA Today he expects to be traded, agent backpedals for him:
Junior obviously controls his own destiny being a 10-and-5 guy, but in the article it sounds as though Seattle would be a perfect match from both sides. I truly doubt we're getting Clement under any circumstances, though.
On a different note, David Weathers takes up for his teammates:
Brantley's on-air comments prompt Weathers response
This is what I like to see out of someone (especially a vet) on the team. Considering the article mentions that Weathers & Brantley are friends, hopefully Stormy's words sink in to Brantley.
Thoughts on the matters at hand? Concerns? What can we realistically get for Griffey? Potato salad?
PS: I hate the FanPost editor, it angries up me blood.

How about now?
With the “cat being out of the bag” (which was really the pink elephant in the room) I wonder if it would be better to trade Griffey now, if a reasonable deal could be had. I say that because now he has mentioned going home to Seattle, the Enquirer is stating what most of us believe; that Griffey will be gone at some point, and the team is struggling mightily. Instead of allowing this to be a bigger distraction than it already is, wouldn’t it be better to see if Seattle will give us a fair deal and take it? That would give us the rest of the year to see if Dunn fits better with Bruce and Freel (or whoever is out there) than he did with Griffey. Someone wrote today that one executive said that Dunn and Griffey, separately, could really contribute on a team…..but that they don’t fit well together. If we trade Griffey, depending on who we got, perhaps Dunn’s shortcomings wouldn’t stand out so much. Or…..maybe they stand out more. At least we would know. What do you guys think?

I don't see any reason other than marketing to keep this guy after tonight.
I mean he one of the greats but this team needs energy and spark.I watched Griffey tonight and it appeard that every at bat he had one thing on his mind HR.
I truly would rather watch J.

About Junior..
People are just piling on him right now. He’s not the reason this team SUCKS right now. We have more than one guy who’s not hitting. It irks me to see fans jump on a guy like Junior at this point, I mean you could easily say Phillips does the SAME thing. This team’s just getting too impatient at the plate and they don’t seem like they have a clue up there, or any general idea of what their approach is. I’m not ready to give up on the year yet, but ask me in another 3 weeks.

Seattle's W-L record
If Seattle doesn’t improve their record this year, why would they give up prospects for Griffey when they can just wait and go after him as a free agent?
I think everyone’s making too big of a deal out of this. If the Reds decide they are out of it, they’ll look to trade the upcoming free agents. If they somehow climb back in this thing, they aren’t going anywhere. That’s all Griffey said. SHOCKING

I think
The Mariners will make a play for Junior either way. Did you see the way the fans there reacted when he came back? The Ichiro lovefest in Seattle is over and they need something/anything to put asses in the seats. Bringing Junior to Seattle puts said asses in the seats, which is exactly what they need since they’re going to be every bit as bad this year as the Reds. Ironically it works for both teams as trading Junior means the Reds bring up J.B. Wunderkind LLC, putting asses in the seats.
Please Note: I may be totally full of shit.

You're not Dustbag either
DFA Patterson and Trade Jr (while we can maybe get a little something for him) and bring up J. Brrrrrrrruuuuuuuuuccccceee! Fropper will way out play CoPat and when Gonzo gets back we’ll need a spot for him (heaven forbid that we not have 3 catchers).

Who Will Take Him?
I understand his frustration level this season, but you have to always be a realist. He is 38, injury prone (missing almost 2/5 a season for the last eight years), has depreciating skills, is becoming a defensive liability, and is terribly overpriced. Anyone who trades for Jr. is going to have to assume most of his salary, and that in itself is a deterrence. The only possibility I could see is if he were to go on a hot streak, and the team traded him “back” to Seattle (where he could DH and be a fan attraction for ticket sales). Otherwise, I cannot foresee too many teams wanting him.

Lookout Landing..
Anyone check over at Lookout Landing for their interest in Jr? Sure it is just a microcosm of Seattle fan interest..
Actually just headed over there and they had 1874 posts in yesterday’s game thread. Man, I thought we were chatty.
