W-L ERA WHIP K BB
2008 - Aaron Harang 1-4 2.98 1.08 41 11

This game is exactly why we have Aaron Harang:  Going up against the other team's ace while trying to string together back-to-back wins and begin to turn this season around.  We need the big guy to come through here.

What's been the big difference between these two pitchers this year?  Run support.  Harang's received just 3.16 R/G from the offense while Zambrano has gotten 5.61 R/G from his teammates.  Lots of Reds players like to face Zambrano.  Hopefully we can switch those R/G numbers around on them.

This game will mark the 6th time that Zambrano and Harang have faced off, with the Reds winning 4 of the previous 5, including all 4 matchups last season.

This is the tenth anniversary of Kerry Wood striking out 20 Astros

Let’s not give him a chance to strike out three Reds.

Harang is the meastliest 1-4 pitcher that e’er there were.

Crap, Ramirez is back

Their 3-6 hitters are STRONG. And The Riot is having a good year too, I believe. Gonna be tough night, but we’ve got our revamped lineup going again. I’d love to see Junior hit one over Pie’s head for 598 tonight.

by Brendanukkah on May 6, 2008 5:32 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah

I think I would like to see this batting order:

Freel
Dunn
Edwin
Jr.
Phillips
Votto
Kepp
Catcher
Pitcher

It gets Dunn and his OBP on ahead of Edwin and Jr. I think it would make our lineup a lot stronger

Hmm

And you’ve got the righty-lefty thing going too. I approve of this lineup construction (although our current one is averaging six runs a game).

by Brendanukkah on May 6, 2008 5:47 PM EDT up reply actions

agreed

on their 3-6 hitters. Does anyone else get the feeling D. Lee is going to crush the ball every time he steps to the plate? I’ve seen him several times from about field level and, damn, he’s huge!!

Either way, i am encouraged by this lineup that Dusty is running out there, and with our ace on the hill, i like our chances. we have hit zambrano pretty well the last couple of outings if i remember correctly. i’ll be heckling the hell out of him from first base side. enjoy the game!!

by crolfer on May 6, 2008 6:28 PM EDT reply actions

For the gamblers..

Tonight’s game is a textbook example of a disparity in the marketplace.

It’s ace vs. ace so neither team can be counted out before the first pitch. The Reds are at home so they’ll get that last at-bat thingy. Thousands of computer simulations have the Reds winning more often than losing. And yet because of all the heavy money being put down by “Cubs Nation”... the Reds are dogs according to the casinos.

It’s not “easy money” but this is the kind of action a wise gambler looks for.

Enjoy!

They needed to make room on the roster for Tom Shearn, so they released Sauerbeck today.

(Shearn had been stashed on the Billings roster to make room for someone else. He never left the Bats, but on paper, he was with Billings. But he’s pitching tonight, so he had to be put back on the roster.)

So many first pitch swings
Everybody swing for da fences
The Cubs were brimming with energy (as were their fans)
The Reds weren’t brimming with anything.
I love Adam but I’m wearied of his inability to hit the ball the other way,
Go ahead send Grif back to Seattle now…screw 600
Freel,EdE, Bako, BP all seemed overmatched.
Maybe we need a new hitting instructor?

Hell bring up the kids, lets get started on ‘09
Blow it up while you can still get something for CoPat, Hari-stunt,Freel and Hatte

the reds deserved to lose

when about 10,000 reds fans (the other half being cubs fans) show up for a game. I know it was a tuesday night but that was pretty pitiful. Griffey was about the only one to do anything tonight, I know he didn’t homer and has been struggling mightily but he did have one half of our hits. I hate Cubs fans and hope there is a special circle of hell for them.

were you at the game tonight?

it did seem there were more cubs fans than normal tonight (if that’s possible)

my section contained a total of four reds fans…

the pro cubs chants were loud and plentiful.

Well, obviously

The reason why Reds fans don’t like to go out to GABP to see the Reds play the Cubs is because there’s so many Cubs fans there. Once you’ve been, you think twice about ever going again when the Cubs are in town.

The 3 biggest reasons that Reds fans don't show up in droves:

1. The team is dismal
2. the stadium entertainment is tired, dated and boring
3. It costs a lot of money to see a dismal team with a boring and dated evening format
