Herion was never this exciting...
"When I got my award, I just wore my usual stuff," Dunn said.
"Was it for the Reds organization or all of baseball?" Bruce said.
Remember Fernando mania
in the early 1980s? Jay Bruce is starting to remind me of that.

Jay Bruce's productivity over not even a week
Is greater than Corey Patterson’s for the entire month of May.
Corey Patterson (May 1-29):
61AB 6R 11H 0HR 2RBI 0BB 10K 3SB 2CS .180/.180/.197
Jay Bruce (May 27-31):
19AB 8R 11H 1HR 4RBI 5BB 1K 2SB 0CS .579/.680/.895
Dusty's head needs an MRI. Beeeeeeeepppp...

Interesting stats according to ESPN
Bruce is the second player in the last 50 years to have a trio of three-hit games in his first five games. Kirby Puckett is the only other player to accomplish the feat. He was 12-for-24 (.500) in his first five games in 1984.
That went pretty well, I'd say.

Puckett is no BRUCE
"When I got my award, I just wore my usual stuff," Dunn said.

So
Is it safe to assume that he is the first player in history to get player of the week in HIS FIRST WEEK?
.579, 11-19, 5 BB, 8 R, 4 RBI, HR, 3 2B, .680 OBP, .895 SLG, 2 SB
how many debut weeks have ever been better than that?
i am still pumped up from that game!
The One
Do you think it will get to a point where he doesn’t even ahve to swing the bat?

On sportcenter they have deemed Jay Bruce “The Boss”.............I love it it’s perfect!
by Dave from Louisville on Jun 1, 2008 11:12 PM EDT up reply actions
Let the records show
that the “Boss” moniker was first used on RR on May 27th by Blue. Mo Egger on 1530 has been using it a lot this week as well, but I think Blue was first.

i would like to point out
that i’m just assuming he’ll be named NL player of the week. i dont know why he wouldnt be at this point. ill update the header with a ?
What do you mean, "blank slate"?
Yeah, I was going to mention him
He hit another home run today. That gives him 5 and 16 RBI, both lead the league for the week. He’s a Jay Bruce type talent.
I'll just say it now
and I don’t care what anyone thinks. I’m officially Gay for Jay.
The thing that sucks is I couldn’t watch it live because I was at some party. I just found out about how the game ended a couple minutes ago.

My wife's already sick of me
talk about Jay Bruce. She laughed when I said I was getting a Bruce jersey.

I'm lucky
my wife was jumping and hollering when he hit it. She gets it

My wife
is the type that doesn’t pay attention much, and doesn’t like watching sports on TV. But she really enjoys going to live sporting events. First week of the baseball season I took her up to Cleveland and sat in the cold at an afternoon Indians game, then went to a Cavs games in the evening. So I can’t complain too much.
She just thinks I’m acting like a silly little kid over Bruce, which I am!

we deserve to act like this
we have been long suffering… oh wait now I sound like the folks up north.
regardless we deserve to act a little crazy every now and then
Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds
My wife
LIkes baseball because she likes getting hot dogs at the games. That is IT.
She has no idea how many innings there are, or really what the point of baseball is beyond trying to hit a ball thrown in your direction.
And honestly, I’m ok with it. She doesn’t make me like Sex and the City or whatever the hell she watches.
your wife should hang out with chandrathan
Jonathan never knew what was going on in the game and talked about Sex and the City way too much for a dude.

“So what’s going on now? Why is the head coach walking out to the mound? Is that Barry Bonds? Why do all the players have huge asses?”
ESPN

c'mon Caleb
don’t you understand the significance of this. A player from the Northeast did something. Let’s watch it again!

Sox Fans
I work with about 5-7 people from the Boston area, all Red Sox fans, and they’re all annoyed at the overexposure of their team.
no
that sentiment is common among people in boston, at least the ones who were red sox fans before 2004.
I think it'll be interesting to see
how much coverage Junya’s 600th gets, when it happens. I’m guessing the last 30 seconds of BBTN, after the sausage race highlights.

(feel free to ignore this rant)
Exaggerate much? Sorry if I’m just pooping on everyone’s parade, but the woe-is-me-my-team-isn’t-on-ESPN-as-much-as-Boston has officially gone too far. I just don’t understand it. Back in the ‘90s I remember being frustrated when the Reds were shorted on the Baseball Tonight highlights, but we’re no longer dependant on that sort of coverage. There are so many outlets to get a Reds fix (even websites!). Is anyone really hoping to hear Eduardo Perez and John Kruk’s take on the team?
The Red Sox are defending champs who are favored to win again. Is it that wrong that national programmers think there’s more interest in them than our boys and their streak of seven straight losing seasons? Also the Reds were on the national telecast today. And the other broadcasts broke-in on Griffey’s at bats. Also Jay Bruce is awesome.
Again sorry, but this has been building in me. Ever time a link is posted to a Reds piece from a national writer there are immediately a dozen all-evidence-to-the-contrary posts about “ohmigod!!! they never say anything about the reds!! Boston!!!”
for the record,
the reds got a ton of coverage tonight both on baseball tonight and sportscenter. but aside from the reds stuff and manny and red sox updates every five minutes, i couldn’t tell you anything else that was on it. except their mock 2005 redraft, which was stupid. they picked ellsbury over jay bruce. hmm.
wait until that red sox series in cincy in two weeks, when half the stadium will be packed with red sox “fans” who were born and raised in this area and who’ve never been to boston in their lives. you’ll be reminded how annoying it is.
I called the shot
Going into the 10th inning, I told everyone that would listen that it would only be fitting for Jay to end his first week with a walk-off. Sitting out in the Moon deck, I had excellent views of most of the Reds big hits today (Griffey #599, Votto’s near HR – though it looked like it was a HR from my seat, and Bruce’s #1).
I’m glad Jay’s on our side.

far enough
It was probably about 15-20 rows up, I think. Honestly, once I saw it clear the wall, I went apeshit.

because I hadn't peed the whole game and I was finally going to be able to go.

My 24 year old daughter says she really likes younger men...(she's going to the game tomorrow w/boyfriend who is also in love w/J., something about somethng called a threesome?)
Meanwhile my 20 year old daughter says she’d like a slightly older guy.
Meanwhile I’ve put a call into to Big Bob to see if we can arranage a one on one private session for Cesar and Jay….
Everyone loves a winner (as long as they aren’t the Yankees).

one might say that it is 'acamdemic'
buy I wouldn’t want to br too inclusive. BTW just saw Jellfish
Very cutesy and romantic flick all about finding your inner child, alienation and the search for Jay Bruce by 3 women in Israel (see Justin’s post down on the page).

Wow,
Bruce has managed to change the tone of this team, this blog, and dare I guess, the city of Cincinnati.
I am actually coming home for a month in a couple of weeks. I am going to miss the Boston series just barely but I will be around for the homestand afterward. Is it LA that will be in town then?
Anyone want to catch a game or 3?

Yeah, so, I love Jay Bruce.
The last two games I’ve gone two were Dunn’s walk-off two weeks ago and Bruce’s today. That makes for some exciting baseball, I must say.
And I don’t think I’ve seen someone have the kind of impact Bruce has had on the general fandom thus far. It’s awe-inspiring. He truly does have the potential to be a savior.
hold your enthusiasm
the reds called up gary majewski. i dont know who theyre sending down. Maybe Weathers has a phantom injury.

The Magic Man!

OK OK Deep Breaths
This can be a positive. One of the meterological duo is surely going down. Perhaps the starters will throw 106 CG shutouts in a row. Maybe the next time Majewski gets a cortisone shot it can have some of “the clear” in it. Hell, maybe The Magic Man even gets caught up in Brucemania and pitches brilliantly!
As an aside, Freel’s tying run in the ninth was ballsy as hell. If he’s out there, then he’s the goat, but I think that heads up play absolves him of any guilt from previous base running miscues
Jeff, we hardly knew ye...
Well, let's not go crazy
He’s still a pretty dangerous baserunner, but more often than not the danger is to the Reds. He came up big today, but I don’t think it absolves him of anything.
Freel
I think it was a smart play. With two outs and Janish coming up, it’s worth the risk. It would have sucked to end the game that way, but if he had been thrown out it wouldn’t suddenly have become a stupid play – though I’m sure a lot of people would have seen it that way. This isn’t getting thrown out stealing with the team down by 5 runs or getting picked off first on a lazy fly ball to center field. He was trying to tie the game up with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. That’s exactly the time to take a risk on the base paths.

It's true
He’s back. Fogg’s on the DL, with a back problem. He probably wrenched whirling around to watch the home runs he was giving up.

funny story
i recorded the game with DVR, and forgot it was on fox which does 20 minutes of pregame and i set it up to go 4 hours, including the 20 minutes of worthless bullshit, it cut off in the top of the 10th, i was real pissed.

i think the rapture or jewish messiah has come
in the form of Jay Bruce, because he can’t be human.

The Spark? Sparky?
As important as his contributions on the field are, he’s also seemed to light a fire under the rest of the bunch. Hell, even Junior looks like he’s enjoying himself
yeah Junior really looked like he belonged on a suicide watch last week...

Jeez I hope he doesn't do himself in:
1. At least not in the 3 hole
2. He’s not on my death pool list
3. Not until after 600
Just kidding – I think the pressure is almost off Jr. and Dunn w/the coming of Bruce.
"When I got my award, I just wore my usual stuff," Dunn said.

my post was sarcasam
it may just be me but Griffey generally doesn’t look too unhappy when he is on the field.
The Dusty Path to the World Series!*

I hope that Jr. will break out and start hitting more singles and doubles once 600 is accomplished.
It appears at this time that Jr. is not going to be traded, which isn’t all that bad – he could still make a contribution before this year is over.
Go Jr.

he will probably hit homeruns more frequantly after he reaches 600
498, 499, and 500 took a while too.
