Chipper would have gotten on base...
Because Weathers always allows the second man he faces to reach.

WHAT A FUCKING IDIOT… DONT YOU LEARN DUMBASS
"I never should have given up the animation rights."
there is no doubt
that Brantley was correct here. The bunt got in his head.
Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds
I agree
completely. FIRE DUSTY! I don’t care who is batting, you DON’T bunt in that situation.

Late innings, tie game
I think this is the time where it’s okay to bunt. You’re not going to get a big inning but just one run makes a huge difference. But you’ve gotta consider who’s at the plate.
Baseball prospectus ran the numbers
Basically, the chances of scoring with man at first, no one out is about exactly the same as man on second, one out. So a bunt in that situation doesn’t really help at all. It shouldn’t be done, unless you have an inferior player at the plate.
Now there is a much higher probability of scoring with man at third one out versus man at second no one out.

More from inside the mind of Dusty...
Hmm…
Should I bunt Bruce?
The guy is only hitting .545…
But I got Griffey coming up next.
Need to stay out of the DP.
Give him the bunt sign!

It would actually make me feel more comfortable about the reds
if I knew Dusty was on a Reds message board during the game. Maybe he wouldn’t pay attention to the game and fuck things up, then.

What happened to EE?
According to Gameday, he vanished before his at-bat, leaving no trace.

thats like the opposite of the hidden ball trick

Wow.
Dusty just called Jocketty asking if we can trade for Escobar. That guy pulled a Freel. Stupid.

good intentions, good hustle > stupidity
according to tHom and clownboy
"I never should have given up the animation rights."
Yeah, doesn't make sense.
We didn’t use Freel to start the inning, because we already used Ross, but we use LLM right after that. That makes ZERO sense.
"My wife ain't never ran and got me no pheasant." - Fistbands
that requires *someone* to not give up a run.

"I never should have given up the animation rights."
Lenny Harris
6.1.98. 1 IP, 0 R, 1 K.
Thank God it didn’t come to that tonight.
Concepcion, O’Neil and Sal Butera have also tossed an inning or two. All were under Rose.
9.7.86. Not even an extra inning game, but the Reds were being blown out. Pretty smart to not wear out your ‘pen, especially when they kept fewer guys there.
I noticed he got the win
but it didn’t register that it was his rookie year, let alone his second start. I guess he’s always owned us.
i could have sworn boone used a position player once
i feel like he atleast talked about it.

Wow, both of those Chipper plays were scored hits
That’s pretty generous. Kind of like the Tom Glavine strike zone.
Griffs was questionable
but BP’s was smoked and the infield was in a bit
Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds
yea....
it was indeed smoked, but the ball went right between his legs. That’s nearly always an E.
But who’s complaining. Phillips gets a hit and an RBI and Chipper finishes off a disastrous night. Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.
Tomorrow he’ll probably be 4-5 with 8 RBI.
they said tonight he hit into 2 dp's
in the same game for only the 5th time in his career
Hope Springs Eternal! Go Reds
that is amazing to me
Jim Day mentioned it was only the fifth time Chipper had 2 GIDP in 1 game
But the Griffey stat surprised me.
Jim Day just used the Boss nickname.
Average up to .571 now.

I hereby transfer the balance of my man-love 401K from Junior to Bruce.
"Got a bump on the ole noggin, but otherwise god. And I get a new vehicle probably, w00t!"
what the hell happened to Cherry Hudson Jr.?!
his numbers thus far this year: .345/.385/.500 in 84 ABs (not including his great night tonight). that’s like better than Jeff Keppinger. He’s not the Boss, but he is definately qualified for the shift manager position.

I vaguely remember
A story about him having some undiagnosed injury (maybe a ribcage problem) the last couple of years? Is that right or am I making shit up again?
"Got a bump on the ole noggin, but otherwise god. And I get a new vehicle probably, w00t!"
He had a broken rib
For two years. (He works out really hard in the off-season, so it didn’t get a chance to heal.) He thought he was just getting old. Finally he was in so much pain he had to get it checked out.
If you look at his stats…they fall off a cliff in 2006, when the injury happened. He went from having an OPS in the 700s to 400-500.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
If you look at his career stats at the end of 2006
he was hitting .261/.334/.371. He may be better than his last two seasons, but I’m really not all that excited by a .705 OPS. I’d give him another 300-400 plate appearances before I’d say he’s anything more than a utility player. And even after that I’d be iffy.
"Hard being everybody’s hero, I suppose." - Buck O'Neil on Willie Mays
Ssssshhhh
Ride the wave dude. Ride the wave.
"Got a bump on the ole noggin, but otherwise god. And I get a new vehicle probably, w00t!"
I don't see him as anything but a utility player
I think, like Freel, his value is in his versatility. I don’t think he plays any position well enough to displace anyone the Reds already have. Looks like he’s best at 2B. Which is occupied, and likely will be for quite some time.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
okay
I thought you were saying that you thought he’d be good as a starter. Obviously I’m happy with the way he’s playing right now, but I hope Dusty doesn’t get too attached to him when he starts to slow down.
"Hard being everybody’s hero, I suppose." - Buck O'Neil on Willie Mays
Yeah
It’s not like Dusty has an extreme history of doing that or anything.
"My wife ain't never ran and got me no pheasant." - Fistbands
Well
Someone (Hal, was it?) reported that Cherry was in Dusty’s doghouse for blabbing to the press during spring training. Supposedly that was why Hairston was called up, then hardly used for so long. Even though the need for a righty pinch-hitter was glaring.
So perhaps we don’t have to worry about Cherry being the new Corey.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I'm in support of "shift manager" as a nickname
for CHJ
"My wife ain't never ran and got me no pheasant." - Fistbands
I'm tellin' ya
I really think Cherry’s for real. Maybe not quite that good, but much better than his career numbers.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
I could care less
As long as it’s scored a win. :)
"Got a bump on the ole noggin, but otherwise god. And I get a new vehicle probably, w00t!"
It's the best of both worlds
:)
"Hard being everybody’s hero, I suppose." - Buck O'Neil on Willie Mays
EV's ERA up to 1.46
That kid really needs some time at AAA to figure things out. If only he’d walk into Dusty’s office and volunteer to go to Louisville like Corey did. You know, for the best of the team.
"Got a bump on the ole noggin, but otherwise god. And I get a new vehicle probably, w00t!"
I was watching the game w/Mrs. M. (HD is too cool)
EdE played some D – tonight -impressive, but this guy has got to hit and get on base more. We be doing better recently but them Reds still need more RH punch at the plate.
Seeing as how Ross appears to be the back up catcher we’ve only one consistent RH power threat in BP.
"When I got my award, I just wore my usual stuff," Dunn said.
"Was it for the Reds organization or all of baseball?" Bruce said.
