Reviewing the Reds 2007 draft.
With the draft rapidly approaching, let’s take a look at how the players the Reds selected and signed in the 2007 draft are performing:
1. Devin Mesoraca-C-Punxsutawney HS.
Dayton: 3-6-.269 .345 .462.
Performing quite well for a young catcher, although his 16:6 K:BB ratio in 52 AB isn’t good.
1S. Todd Frazier-3B-Rutgers.
Dayton: 7-20-.331 .402 .598.
Sarasota: 4-11-.258 .342 .548
Tore up Low-A and is adjusting to High-A. The power is there. The average needs to improve.
2. Zack Cozart-SS-Mississippi.
Dayton: 2-11-.198 .282 .286.
Living up to reputation as all glove, no bat.
3. Scott Carroll-RHP-Missouri State.
Dayton: 1-2 3.75. 1.38 whip. 48 IP, 50 H, 24 K, 16 BB. 9 G, 9 GS.
So-so.
5. Drew Bowman-LHP-Nebraska
Dayton: 1-2 2.45.1.64 whip. 3.2 IP, 5 H. 5K, 1 BB. .313 opp avg.
Just getting started.
7. Brandon Waring-3B-Wofford.
Dayton: 10-30-.270 .340 .494. 63 K in 174 AB.
Good power. Kind of a clout or an out guy. Sarasota would provide a better gauge.
13. Brandon Menchaca-OF-Delaware.
Dayton: 0-3-.132 .203 .147.
Not much of a factor in 68 AB.
14. Joseph Krebs-LHP-Texas.
Dayton: 4-2 1.44. 1.32 whip. 17 G, 4 SV. 25 IP, 22 H. 19 K, 11 BB. .234 opp avg.
Performing fairly well, as he should for a college pitcher from a top program.
15. Matt Klinker-RHP-Furman.
Dayton: 3-3 3.30. 1.15 whip. 43 IP, 42 H, 34 K, 8 BB. 8 G, 7 GS. .255 opp avg.
Not bad at all for a former Paladin.
19. Jeff Jeffords-RHP-South Carolina.
Dayton: 2-1 2.52. 1.32 whip. 25 IP, 24 H. 36 K, 9 BB. .258 opp avg.
So far so good. Needs the challenge Sarasota would provide.
20. Jake Kalhaulelio-SS-Oral Roberts.
Just 16 AB between Dayton and Sarasota. Batting .125.
21. Jeremy Horst-LHP-Armstrong Atlantic.
Dayton: 1-1 4.13. 1.31 whip. 28 IP, 20 H. 26 K, 17 BB. 17 G, all in relief. .198 opp. avg.
Too many walks. Other than that, not bad.
22.Tyler Rhoden-RHP-Vanderbilt.
Dayton: 1-1 3.48. 1.84. 10 IP, 12 H. 5 K, 7 BB. .273 opp avg.
Small sample size, but I expected more.
23. Jason Bour-C-George Mason.
Dayton: 0-6-.220 .252 .290.
Not much to write home about.
26. Curtis Partch-RHP-Merced JC.
Dayton: 2-6 6.00. 1.38 whip. 45 IP, 48 H. 29 K, 14 BB. 9 G, 9 GS. .267 opp avg.
Big guy who is struggling.
28. Steve Otterness-lhp-Embry-Riddle.
Sarasota: 0-0 0.00. 1.17 whip. 7.2 IP, 6 H. 6 K, 3 BB. .207 opp. avg.
Small sample, but impressive so far.
30. Brett Bartles-3B-Duke.
Dayton: 1-3-.186 .286 .256.
Sarasota: 0-1-.250 .250 .500.
43 AB at Dayton and 4 at Sarasota.
44. Josh Beal-RHP-Independence CC.
Sarasota: 0-0 4.50. 1.00 whip. 1 G, 2 IP, 2 H, 1K, 0 BB.
In extended spring training: 1S. RHP Kyle Lotzkar; 3. SS Neftali Soto; 9.OF Alexis Oliveras; 10. RHP Harris Honeycutt; 11.C Jordan Wideman; 12. RHP Scott Gaffney; 16. LHP Shea Snowden; 24. C Frank Meade; 25. 1B Eli Rimes; 28. RHP Derrick Conatser; 31. RHP Jordan Hotchkiss; 33. 3B Brodie Pullen; 34. RHP Jeremy Vinyard; 41.OF Kevin Hickey; 48. OF Michael Henry.

i think mesoraco is turning a corner
he’s got a seven-game hit streak working. Also, I’ve been really impressed by Matt Klinker. He’s been (with Enerio Del Rosario) one of the only really starters in Dayton this year.
What do you mean, "blank slate"?
Dayton appreciates a really good self-starter

Oliveras
is a guy I’ll be keeping an eye on when Rookie ball starts up again.
FIRE DUSTY BAKER
I'll not start a new diary for this but
Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com has his latest first round prediction posted and has the Reds taking Miami 1B Yonder Alonso. I would be absolutely thrilled. I think Alonso is as complete a hitter as the Reds can get—power to all fields, average, plate discipline, great eye at the plate. He’s limited to 1B, where he is quite good, but that’s fine if Votto moves to LF.
Mayo previously had the Reds selecting Missouri pitcher Aaron Crow, whom he now has slipping to Houston at No. 10. I still would be happy with Crow or with Georgia SS Gordon Beckham, predicted by Mayo to go No. 8 to the White Sox. I really like Alonso, though. The thought of him teaming with Votto and Bruce in the middle of the order for years to come is exciting.
Mayo’s top seven picks now are:
1. TB: Tim Beckham-SS-HS
2. PIT: Pedro Alvarez-3B-Vanderbilt
3. KC: Eric Hosmer-1B-HS
4. BAL: Brian Matusz-LHP-San Diego
5. SF: Buster Posey-C-Florida State
6. FLA: Kyle Skipworth-C-HS
7. CIN: Yonder Alonzo-1B-Miami

I read somewhere - Baseball digest maybe? That Crolfer was in the top 15
14. Kid Crolfer -2nd base
"When I got my award, I just wore my usual stuff," Dunn said.
"Was it for the Reds organization or all of baseball?" Bruce said.
