Juan Duran
This is the 16 year old outfielder the Reds gave the $2 Million signing bonus to. Everyone thought he was eligible to be signed until July 2nd but the Reds snuck in and got him before. I was wondering if anyone knew what team he was placed on or if he is still in the dominican. I checked the Reds minor league teams and did not see him on any rosters. Just curious to see if anyone else knows anything about him.
Also its great to see The Next Big Thing is here.

If I recall correctly
Because of the technicality that allowed the Reds to sign him in the first place, he has to be assigned to Billings, and their season doesn’t start up until after the draft. There’s a good chance he won’t play anywhere for the Reds this year though, just because of his age. I’m guessing the first glimpse of Duran we actually get on the field is gonna be in rookie ball next season, as my impression of the scouting reports of him were that he’s more upside than polish right now, so putting him in professional competition at age 16 might be setting him up to fail.

i realize he has an extra year because of his age
but does the clock start ticking this year in realtion to when the Reds have to place him on the 40 man roster?

Duran and his placement
If he plays this year, which is going to happen unless there is an injury, its going to be with the GCL Reds. The ‘Billings’ roster is just a stipulation and he doesn’t actually have to play with them. He likely won’t play much, given his age, but he will be in Sarasota with the GCL Reds working out and practicing from everything I have been told.
