Patterson - no walks in May

Ok i understand this guy is horrid but I was just looking over some splits for the month and HE HAS YET TO DRAW A WALK.  The anti-clog loves this im sure and I cant wait to see him leading off tomorrow against shittsburgh and extending his 3-35 slump.  This month's numbers - 60 ab's, 10 k's, 11 H, 1 2B, 0 3B, 0 HR, 2 RBI.  Great for a guy whos hit leadoff in every start but one (in which he hit 2nd).  Apologies if you throw up profusely after seeing this

I don't like calling it a 3-35 slump.

That implies that he’ll come out of it and be a better player at some point, and I’m not really sure that’s the case.

Why stop with May?

Since April 10th: .168/.210/.221 (that’s 121 PAs)

you happily ignore all the great work he did from march 31-april 9

when he went .323/.353/.839/1.192 with 4 HR and 8 RBI. So really, it all evens out to him being a well-above-average centerfielder with GREAT defense.

i'm sure doc would rather have him than Adam Dunn

yeah

although has there been a shift in locals’ attitudes toward dunn? Slyde pointed me to the fay blog post about dunn a few days ago in which a lot of fans said to resign him, which seems about right to me considering it’s nearing the time when it wouldn’t be prudent to do so. Has Doc been undergoing this shift, or is it the same ole Doc?

Doc had a blog about Dunn today, I think.

And he was his usual Doc-ish self. He’s a twat. Dunn has done a pretty good job answering pretty much every criticism of him this year and Doc is making up new ones and saying the Reds can’t possibly afford him.

Wow, that blog by Doc is absolutely atrocious.

How does he have a job where he gets paid to be an authority on baseball?

No I believe he used the whole "Can the Reds afford Dunn"

argument when Slyde came on last summer…

Someone should point out to Doc that “Can the Reds offense afford to lose their most productive player and expect to win for seasons to come?”

Also on the way home from school I was listening to “The Inside Pitch” on 700 WLW where they have one of their sports talk guys talk Reds baseball a half an hour before the game and Doc was on. He said “I accepted Dunn as a guy who hits HRs when they don’t matter and that will strike out 200 times a year”...I think I saw a stat here or on TV that Dunn leads active players with Walk off HRs…not that it matters but still it counters his already stupid point.

Here's Doc's reasoning:

Basically, he says that the Reds can’t replace Dunn’s offense with one player, but they can replace it with two. THIS MAKES NO GODDAMN SENSE. For one, using two players in left field is against the rules, and using 10 players in a lineup is also against the rules (although Dusty might not know that). So what is he suggesting? Platoon? If you can find two players to platoon in LF that will give you 40 HR and 100 RBI, I’ll eat my hat.

Active leaders in walk-off home runs
Jim Thome 10
David Ortiz 9
Vladimir Guerrero 9
Adam Dunn 7
Albert Pujols 7
Alex Rodriguez 7
Chipper Jones 7

Thome, Ortiz,Guerrero, ARod, and Chipper all have at least 1000 more PAs than Dunn. Even Pujols has 700 more PAs than Dunn.

As an out-of-market fan, I don’t really know too much about him either. But I’ve read enough on this site that it doesn’t make me want to seek out his work.
