Reds hitters on this roadtrip: .204/.272/.293
Only 2 players have an OPS over .700 on this trip, Dunn and Griffey. Do you think their teammates are trying to get them back for their April struggles? Whatever it is, the lack of hitting has to stop immediately. I say they bust one open on ol' Wilfredo.
Arroyo stumbled a bit in his last start, but he hasn't allowed a home run in his last 3 starts. Progress is his middle name! (bonus points)

Who made this lineup?
Ryan Freel, 3B
Paul Janish, SS
Ken Griffey Jr., RF
Brandon Phillips, 2B
Adam Dunn, LF
Jerry Hairston, CF
Joey Votto, 1B
David Ross, C
Bronson Arroyo, RHP
It has some Dusty fingerprints on it (SS batting 2nd, no back-to-back lefties), but the CF is batting 6th? Is Speier breaking away? This is the first time all season that the CF has batted lower than 2nd.
BTW, what’s up with Edwin? Is he hurt? Did he get suspended too? This is the 3rd time in the last 6 games that he hasn’t started.

Justin Lehr's gone?
From Hal:
Righthanded pitcher Justin Lehr is headed for Korea. The Reds sold his contract Friday to the Doosan Bears of the Korea Professional League.
Lehr, 30, was 4-2 with a 2.41 ERA in eight starts for the Class AAA Louisville Bats, walking only nine in 52 1/3 innings while striking out 34.
"Lehr had a clause in his contract that said if a Korean club approached him, we had to let him go and that’s exactly what happened," said general manager Walt Jocketty. "We had an opportunity to match their offer but it wasn’t something we wanted to do.
"This is happening more and more," Jockety added. "Some players use it as a stepping stone to Japan and it gives them an opportunity to make some money."
I'll miss him
He pitched very well for the Bats.
All Things Bubba: Because how can you not love a baseball player named Bubba?
Thats intense
I mean if he had the clause that must mean that he will be fine with it but its a big difference from goin to louisville to wherever Doosan is in Korea

George "Jerry Sr. was a great hitter"
Career .258 hitter, George. Never played in more than 115 games in a season.
I think Jerry Jr. looks a little like Chris Katan as Mango
"Hard being everybody’s hero, I suppose." - Buck O'Neil on Willie Mays
By the way
Jerry Jr. is a .254 career hitter. Come to think of it, he has never had a productive season in the major leagues. He had one pretty good minor league season in 2000 in just 64 games.
So, by comparison...
maybe Sr. is a great hitter in the context of the Hairston clan.

is that even with those two All Stars, the Reds and the Rangers are a combined 13 games out out first place in May and someone is trying to figure out which team snookered the other.

"Karma - there it was. The meaning of life, straight from Carson Daly's lips to my morphine-laced ears." -Earl Hickey
This is pretty cool
Earlier this year a landmark study in cognitive dissonance was thrown into question by the Monty Hall problem.
Briefly they offered a monkey a choice between 2 colors of M&Ms, red and blue. The monkey chooses red. Then they offered the monkey a choice between blue, the ‘rejected’ color and a third color, green. The monkey chooses green more often than one would expect. The thinking was that once monkeys (and humans) reject something they convince themselves they wouldn’t have wanted it. This choice rationalization has long been accepted in cognitive psychology.
BUT now an economist says the monkey’s preference can be explained by statistics. It’s basically the Monty Hall problem that had fooled researchers.
I need a subscription to read the article
and I don’t want to subscribe.
Is the issue here that they’re giving the monkey a choice of either blue vs. green or red vs. green, and compiling all the results together? You’d figure the monkey would take 50% of each given the choice (being that it’s a monkey), which would give you 25% Red, 25% Blue and 50% Green if you combine all the trials.
