5'6"?
That has to be the shortest in baseball. I’d like to see him next to Dunn. Or Randy Johnson.

Blech.
Daniel Cabrera needs to give Johnny C. and Homer B. their control back.

Bailey has control
Just put in the effort. He simply doesn’t care a whole lot right now as told by the sub-standard velocity he has been throwing out there. Add another 3mph to his fastball and his performances get much better.

Homer has had this problem throughout his career
His lack of effort in periods than dominance in other periods. He is a velocity dependent pitcher. Unlike what most people think, the higher his velocity is, the better his command is. Yeah, he will walk a couple when throwing 94-98, but he walks alot when throwing 91-92 crap with little else going for it.
The media has written enough on it over the last 2 years. I would use the search engine.
It is all up to him when he makes a real push for the majors. The Reds throught he was late last May which is why they called him up. Sadly he was having leg problems and he had trouble throwing his breaking pitch. Hopefully he mentally can put his best fastball foward in a couple of weeks.
Johnny Cueto doesn’t have any control problems wither. Young pitcher will have walks in the majors. Even ones with good control. That is a truism.

I've seen plenty of what the media has said
but you seem so certain in your critique of Homer that I figured you were on the inside. A week ago you were adamant that he needed an MRI. Now you think it’s a lack of caring. In both instances you spoke as if you had some sort of behind the scenes info that the rest of us don’t have. Is it safe for me to assume that you are just guessing like the rest of us? I’m not trying to be a dick, but when someone new shows up and starts talking with the sort of certainty with which you speak, I like to find out if they are legit or just trying to make heads or tails of things like the rest of us.
And while I’ve never accused Cueto of having control problems, I would back Geki up by saying you can have control problems and not be walking people. What I saw of Cueto last night, he wasn’t really hitting his spots all that well. And I’d guess that would be some explanation as to why he’s given up so many HRs this year. I have no expectations of him being perfectly refined as a 22-year old, but from what I’ve seen lately, his control can stand to be a little more precise. He’ll get there.
I think his real issue though is that he’s still learning how to get Major Leaguers out. It’s something a lot of pitchers have to learn. Luckily enough for Cueto, he’s on a staff with a pitcher who went through the same process in Harang. And Cueto has a lot better raw stuff than Harang.

Slyde, I used the search engine
I didn’t know a whole lot of Homer then so I decided to checkup on him and do some research. It was quite reveiling about him.
I changed my position since then. I think we can sum Homer up as a velocity dependent pitcher if not throwing mid-90’s heat consistantly, will struggle.
The fact his velocity has been so weak lately is making him look real bad. But as I read over his first 2 professional years. He had the same “problem”. Except for a few periods.
It is all there. It is up to Homer when he wants to be a major leaguer.

So...
You’ve come to the determination that Homer is lazy and could easily fix his control whenever he wanted via a google search?
Color me skeptical. Actually, color me saying you’re talking completely through your ass. Perhaps Homer is having a mechanical issue, but he is not making a conscious decision to throw in the low-90s when he’s capable of throwing in the mid-90s.
And it’s pretty obvious that Cueto is having some issues locating pitches of late, hence his high pitch counts and homerun totals and his lower strikeout totals. I’m confident it’s something that will get worked out, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

Cueto's problem is he is just young
Trying to hard to make perfect pitches rather than letting himself get into a flow.
Homer has desire issues. Maybe not so much being lazy physically as the desire to throw his best. He was throwing harder earlier in the year. His walks are caused by low velocity which cause him to get slammed. Throw a extra 3mph to every pitch and he is much much better.

Homer is still very young - look at what happened to Edinson
Texas gave up on him and now he’s beginning to bloom…different folks develop at different rates. I’d still give Home some time. His ‘uncaring’ behavior may also be a way to cope with hitting a developmental brick wall. I still have high hopes for the kid.

Edisons power numbers were always good
He struck out 130 in 122 innings during his first go around. He is also a fastball/changeup pitcher. Edison will always give up alot of walks.
Homer is velocity dependent. If he doesn’t have it, he isn’t very good. The general feeling around baseball is, Homer doesn’t throw his best and hence struggles. The higher up he goes up in the minors, the more his lack of desire to throw his best is exposed.
Looks like his 3 month boom in 2006 was the exception not the norm.

Cueto is older than Homer is.
And yet Cueto is “young” while Homer has “desire issues”? You’re full of shit, to put it simply. Your logic doesn’t even make sense. If you add an extra 3 MPH to any pitch that anyone throws, it’s obviously going to be much much better. That doesn’t mean they can turn it on at will, and it doesn’t mean somebody who is capable of throwing 97 and is only clocking in at 92 is only doing that because they lack desire. I’m not even much of a Homer supporter and that’s just blatant anti-Homer propaganda with absolutely no backing other than your google search leading you to conclude this. Homer struggled with control at times in high school, he struggled at times in the low minors, he even struggled at times when he was dominating in 2006 and early last year. If a guy isn’t locating his pitches where he wants to, he’s gonna get hit around and he’s gonna give up walks. That’s Homer’s problem, not this fanciful idea of him not wanting to throw his best for whatever asinine reason you have come up with.

You admitted the problem but don't want to hear the truth
Homer SHOULD be having 3mph added to his pitches. That 91-92mph stuff has got to stop.
I figure he doesn’t trust throwing 6 straight of those over the plate. I sure agree.
Get the velocity up, Homer improve…........alot.

His ceiling is probably only superloogy but the Reds could use somebody like that. The Brays and Affeldts are really LH middle relievers.
