Saturday Hockey Anyone?

I've mentioned this before in a game thread or two and sent an email to those of you I had an address for, so this is for everyone else.

'tHan & I will be going to the Cyclones game this Saturday for game 1 of the Kelly Cup Finals. The deal is sweet - $10 tickets and $1 beers, your choice of PBR or Miller High Life.

If you're interested contact me via the email in my profile and I'll get back with you. I obviously hope otherwise, but this may be our town's only playoff experience this year and take it from me, playoff hockey (even if it's minor leagues) is a great time. \

Anyone on board for a RR night out at a hockey game?

I wish I could go

That sounds awesome. On Saturday, I’m off to the DC United game, where I will probably see them lose to Toronto FC for the second time in four days. But, since I’m helping out with the tailgate, I get all I can eat, plus all I can drink for free. And none of your PBR or High Life neither.

Hooray for unpopular sports!

I'd love to see a soccer game

It seems like such an “experience”. I might have to go up and watch a Columbus Crew game this summer, methinks.

The experience is definitely the best part

If you go, try to sit in or next to a supporters section. They will be standing, shouting, cheering, and singing all game. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to a Crew game, so I’m not sure what the stadium atmosphere is like there these days. DC is renowned for having some of the best fans, and from what I’ve seen it’s true. RFK stadium has stands that shake and bounce when the crowd gets moving, and a big drum circle/mosh pit on the concourse at half time.

Toronto might have the overall best atmosphere. EVERYONE there is into the game, always. When opposing players take corner kicks, they’re showered in a barrage of streamers. Michael Wilbon was complaining about that, but considering that in Latin and South America, players get batteries, bottles, and bags of urine thrown at them, streamers aren’t so bad.

Check out this video of the first goal Toronto FC ever scored (they were an expansion franchise last year). The fans celebrated by spontaneously throwing their free seat cushions all over the field. It was a pretty awesome moment.

no matter where your tickets

You can move to the supporters seccion, behind one of the ‘endzones.’ Then you can chant and bang drums the whole time. It’s a good scene.

Got a friend in DC

who is a big United fan. He saw Ben Olsen in a supermarket a few months ago and started shooting the shit. My friend is the owner of a small, organic sweet potato butter company. Turns out Ben Olsson really likes sweet potato butter and they really hit it off.

Maybe I could put you two in contact and you could hang out with Ben and eat sweet potato butter, or my friend could come tailgate with you all (he has season tickets).

Tanzen!

My guess

Is that he’ll come in time for Tuesday’s game since they don’t play Monday.
