I heard him mention it the other day..

but I was fading in and out of sleep.

He likes that one? Huh.

Not that I’ve given it a lot of thought, but when I have, I’ve thought that most Randy Newman songs would be pretty okay if there were no vocals and no instrumentation other than piano. And no ballads.

by Fat Vegas Alan on May 21, 2008 12:50 AM EDT up reply actions

I edited a magazine piece about 7 years ago

that was basically a gushing appeciation of Good Ole Boys (and “Louisiana 1927” in particular). I bought the album to listen to as I was working on the piece and found myself confounded by the author’s claims about the depth, subtleties and insight of the lyrics. The whole thing seemed pretty pedestrian to me.

Tidbits

The Reds highest leverage at-bat of the game (according to leverage index at FanGraphs) was Brandon Phillip’s 6th inning at-bat where he ended up grounding into a double play. The Dodgers highest leverage at-bat, was in the 2nd inning when Chad Billingsley singled in the Dodgers second run. Bad timing for the Reds, but good timing for the boys n blue.
