I hate Randy Newman
I get most musical loves, but I don’t get that one.
Curse and drat, he's outmaneuvered us.

He has long outlived his usefullness.
IIRC, Ash loads Randy Newman.

I know you love Tony K
but his jazz for “I Love LA” is odd.

I heard him mention it the other day..
but I was fading in and out of sleep.
He likes that one? Huh.
Not that I’ve given it a lot of thought, but when I have, I’ve thought that most Randy Newman songs would be pretty okay if there were no vocals and no instrumentation other than piano. And no ballads.

I edited a magazine piece about 7 years ago
that was basically a gushing appeciation of Good Ole Boys (and “Louisiana 1927” in particular). I bought the album to listen to as I was working on the piece and found myself confounded by the author’s claims about the depth, subtleties and insight of the lyrics. The whole thing seemed pretty pedestrian to me.

Louisiana 1927
was kind of interesting in the aftermath of Katrina. Now it’s back to being unmemorable though.

RE: Newman
I don’t know what this is, but I know it’s not genius and yet it somehow passes for “the genius of Randy Newman.”
I think it might be nothing more than a lazy, rambling, piano-tinkling sophomoric editorial.

Tidbits
The Reds highest leverage at-bat of the game (according to leverage index at FanGraphs) was Brandon Phillip’s 6th inning at-bat where he ended up grounding into a double play. The Dodgers highest leverage at-bat, was in the 2nd inning when Chad Billingsley singled in the Dodgers second run. Bad timing for the Reds, but good timing for the boys n blue.

Soccer omens ***SPOILER ALERT***
Reds over Blues in the Champions League! Manchester United beat Chelsea 6-5 on penalty kicks in the matchup between two of the most unloved teams on the planet.
But hey, I look at it as a good omen. Surely the Cincinnati Reds will triumph over the soulless Dodger Blues tonight!
U-N-I, T-E-D!
United is the team for me!

That game had everything.
The only disappointing thing is that both teams couldn’t lose, but at least it was exciting.
