No way,
Funny its my birthday too, though I have the sneaking suspicion that I”m a little younger than the Slyder.

It’s also Austin Kearns’s birthday. And Cher.

Full blogger disclosure.
The tasty looking Reds cupcakes didn’t really come from the kitchen above Slyde’s basement studio apartment.
They came from this pretty fantastic looking custom cupcakery. I figure if this gal can make up some Red Velvet wishbone “C” cupcakes, we owe her a lil’ bit of web traffic. Check her out. Need some customized cupcakes? Her website claims, “Pretty much, anything goes.”

Thanks for the well-wishes everyone
My gift to you is this little nugget…
We all know Dunn has an RBI in 8-straight games, right? Well, if you didn’t, you do now. In those 8 games, he has 7 total hits. Even better is that 4 of those 7 hits have come in the last 2 games. It’s the little things, people. The little things.
Oh, and it’s the big things too. His Slugging Percentage went up over .500 for the first time this season yesterday. And his OPS is now up to .880, which believe it or not is still just 3rd on the team!
So, with that in mind, I will now give some props to Brandon Phillips. (Please start your tape recorders for historical record) He currently leads the team with an .896 OPS, which is 3rd in the Majors for 2B behind Dan Uggla and Chase Utley. He’s also 2nd in the Majors for RZR (Revised Zone Rating) for 2B – so he’s playing some damn fine defense too. So, keep kicking some ass, BP!

His OBP is also up to a respectable .352

My concern (and there always is one)
is that he’s being buoyed by a .336 BABIP right now, which is about 25 points too high. In other words, I think .280/.330/.500 is still his natural level. It’s good, but I sure wish his OBP would stay in the .350s even when his batting average dropped to .280.
FWIW, Dunn’s BABIP is only .230, or about 50 points below what we’d expect. Hopefully this means that it’s just the beginning of the turn around.

Feliz Cumpli, Slyde
but I sure wish his OBP would stay in the .350s even when his batting average dropped to .280.
You can’t say your birthday wish out loud , Slyde! Now you have to do it again!
Don Philipe does look a lot better at the plate these days. I loved how he tossed his bat like he hit a long one after his RBI single on Sunday. Maybe that means he has started taking satisfaction in what he is good at- htting the ball low and hard, and stopped swinging for the river with every pitch. It seems he is taking more pitches too (just an observation, no stats to back that up).
In sum, the Reds with offensive are more fun to watch than the Reds without offense (just an observation, no stats to back that up).
Tanzen!

I haven't looked at his P/PA recently
but from all the at bats I’ve seen over the last week or so, his swing is still huge and he’s still swinging at balls out of the zone. In his K last night, he swung and missed two pitches that were never strikes.
That’s just me eyeballing it (and I missed some at bats this weekend). Anyone else have any observations?

Dunn
if he homers tonight will break the Reds team record for consecutive games with a home run. If he drives in a run in any manner he will tie that team record.
It is a season of streaks and right now he is on a huge upswing. Hopefully he can stay on it for awhile and the rest of the Reds can feed off it.

Pssht, everyone knows the win stat is overrated.
Slyde celebrates his birthday by Matt Belisle having a high game score, Adam Dunn improving his OPS+, and Soft J improving the Revised Zone Rating for the shortstop position tonight.
