One more hypothetical trade to ponder concerning Griffey...ad nauseum, I know.

Let me ask all of you this........Would you be willing to package Griffey with Homer Bailey to Seattle for Jeff Clement and a B-level prospect in the lower minors....say High A?

Now.......I'm not a Homer basher at all.  I think he will eventually "get it" but maybe not at the stud status everyone thought.....or maybe he will.  Even so, the Reds get a stud-hitting catcher and contribute to their up-and-coming pitchers.  Now........doing this still leaves us in a bind for a 5th starter.  I've been very disappointed in Belisle, who I really thought would improve this year.  Fogg is either pretty solid or absolutely horrible, and........well.....who else?  Maloney seems to be picking up steam and Thompson has been great at AA but do we have anyone that could carry us ENOUGH as a 5th starter to warrant this trade?

Please.......opinions.......rip me apart if you want.......I'm just throwing it out there because the Reds might have to package Griffey with someone or multiple someone's unless he starts tearing it up.

i wouldnt trade Bailey for Clement straight up.

as for Jr, i dont know if Seattle is the right fit. they are pretty lousy and even though Bavasi is a moron i dont see him trading prospects for the likes of Jr. it sounds like the right place for him to go, and sentimentally it is the ONLY place for him to go, but i just dont think it makes sense. maybe in two months the Mariners will have picked up a bit and give themselves the illusion of being competitive, but i dont see it. at the same time, Jr will have to pick it up or nobody will want him. i think a strong month from him could assuage all doubts and we could get a decent pull for him. but even then Clement is too much.

No

To me it doesn’t make sense to give up Homer in that deal. If you wanted to package a lower prospect from the Reds with Griffey, if it reaches the point where you have to trade him, then do it that way. But I think the inclusion of Griffey in a deal with the M’s would be sufficient for Clement.

And if I’m Seattle I wouldn’t give you Clement for Griffey. I’d wait until the off season and sign him then, provided something isn’t worked out with the Reds.

Ask yourself this

If you’re the Ms would you give up Clement for Griffey? I wouldn’t, maybe a few years ago, but not this year.

Maloney

I know the guy has good control and had an insane K/BB ratio last year in the Reds’ organization, but he seems to be coming back to earth in Louisville this season.

With his low velocity, his control numbers have got to be much better than average, in my opinion, for him to be considered for a spot in the major league rotation.

Curse and drat, he's outmaneuvered us.

I agree.

I don’t see Maloney ever amounting to much of a major league pitcher.

I’d be willing to include Thompson in a deal for Clement, too. But not Bailey.

I've flip flopped on every possibility mentioned

and now I’m back to Griffey and Bailey for Clement and a low-A stud (I would say “prospect,” but I don’t really think those exist in low-A).

i’d swap bailey even up for a good catching prospect.

if they wanted more, i’d give ‘em mesorasacarassafrackinrasasco.
